Default Ball Bearing Retainer

Hey guys, while flushing bearings last night I lost one of the little bearing retainer clips that hold the bearing in place. Does any one know where I can find these, or If someone happens to work on reels and has some extra retainer clips please let me know, as I would be more than happy to purchase some from you. Thanks

Ryan

Those little things have a mind of their own. I think the only place you'll be able to get one if from the manufacturer or maybe a reel repair place. What brand of reel was it?

Oh, and whatever you do, don't fish without it.

Those things do have a mind of their own. I keep a large powerful magnet close by when I work on reels, guns and anything alse with small springy parts. Sometimes you can get lucky and find whatever you lost with the magnet.

It was a BPS Clunn Reel.... what is it going to affect if the retainer is not in place? It goes to the bearing under the cast control knob... I was just outside casting it, and it was casting beautifully. Just wondering why not fish it?

There is only on way to find. A car will run a few minutes without oil too.

I don't think that one would cause much trouble, but one you DEFINITELY don't want to fish without is the spool shaft bearing in the palm plate.

But like Bubba said though, you never know if it is going to effect something until that something is already broken.

I would recommend this as only a temp fix until you can get the correct replacement part. Take a small piece of thread or dental floss and place it on the side of the cavity that the bearing fits into, press the bearing into the cavity, pinching the thread between bearing and the wall. Leave a little tag end you can pull out later with pliers. Because the housing and bearing have a close tolerance fit, the string will create enough friction between the bearing outer race and the cavity wall to hold it in place.

I lost a retainer on the palm plate bearing and this worked until my replacement came.

Well, here is another question.... If I order some new retainers for my BPS reels, will retainers for other reels fit in my reels?

Ryan-I think if you call BPS they can probably get you fixed up.
