Default Keeping a log book

Is so important...
I've been using the B.A.S.S daily planner since 1996...

The green one on the right is 1996 with the old cover. The new covers started in 2000. Notice 2010 is missing, it's on my desk. That's 13+ years of my fishing history. They are all filled. If you haven't been filling one out, you are missing out on storing vital information. I reference these all the time. I keep them near my desk.

I've been meaning to do this, but I never seem to get around to starting one. Oh wait, I'm thinking of diets....

But seriously, I think this would save so much time in not throwing lures that haven't worked in the past and such.

I have a spiral notebook in the boat. On my way home from fishing I have my passenger write down the info from today. While I have a few minutes of time during the week I will edit or add more to it. I have been doing this since 1988. I agree with you that it sure does help your outcome. This will help you alot if you fish different lakes. Myself, I mainly fish the same lake, but it helps me keep track of what they are feeding on during the seasons.
If you fish tourneys, keep track of your competitors luck or lack of.

Use the voice memo function on your cell phone if you don't have a small voice recorder to document your catches. Just record the pertinent info then transfer it to your log when you get home. Quick, easy, and accurate.

There's a free excel template here: http://www.hookedangler.com/hookedan...ishingjour.htm

It's pretty basic, I could definitely build something more elaborate with drop down menu's and such...hmmmm...maybe that's a good project..maybe I could make it a bassfishin.com member thing..(I knew my degree would come in handy)

I have a pornographic memory and never forget a spot lure or conditions.. Dang that spell checker.

I am required to keep catch logs and mail them in each week. So additional work seems a little too much. But I do file a photo report each trip so I go back and see the conditions.

I think a searchable data base on a iphone would be the best. I bet there is an app for that too.

Would look like:

Saturday April ??, ????, partly cloudy, near perfect temps and water temps, threw the tackle box, nada!

Monday, April ??, ????, Blue bird skies, Water temps in the upper 60s, water clarity 3-4', pads coming up, drilla getting green, threw the same thing as the above post with same results!

Saturday, May ??, ????, snagged a carp!

Sunday, May ??, ????, Went to Wheeler with Brother Love, Perfect conditions! Water semi clear, Bass busting shad all around boat, Brother Love just thumping those critters! Bro Love gave me one of the magic baits and got it hung on my butt first cast! 2 hour wait and $170 emergency bill, embarrassed by giggling nurses!

Bob, you forgot the part where he hooks himself.

On chat the other night, I actually took credit for putting him on the right bait at wheeler to accomplish that feat....hehe

Haha, I wanst even there, I texted him a list with crankbaits right at the top...I said get sharp hooks.

But the retelling is just fine by me. Just remember, I got a 7 pound smallmouth while there as well...on the same crankbait that hooked him.
