Default Senkos at Walmart

When did they start selling Senkos at Wal-Mart? I stopped by today, and noticed them hanging there! As of right now, they only had 4 different packages, but hopefully they'll get several more! I think they were $6.96...

Speaking of Senkos, Dick's is having their 20% off sale on all baits. Now is the time to stock up.

Mine recently had a clearance sale of all sorts of baits and packs, picked up a few.. and then the last trip I saw they had senkos and some newer ones in their place. I have been watching the clearance isle for some more cheaper but decent baits.

Just FYI, if your Walmart has ever carried Kinami, then they were carrying GY Senkos if I remember correctly from a story I read a while back. Gary's son wanted to put them out in mass in chain stores like Walmart. But Gary didn't want to blemish his image by appearing to sell out to the bait shops, and he didn't think patrons of the Walmart community would splurge on the then 7.99 (I think) price tag either. So he allowed his son to produce Kinami in the same plant, but just a different package. They were sold at a cheaper price, because there were less in a pack, but it still would average to the normal price of the regular 10 (GY Pack) vs 6 (Kin). But it sounds like GY has made the plunge in to the main stream now by allowing his signature Senko to be sold outside of primary bait suppliers. I noticed they have also come down in price a little now too. I didn't research these statements, so I could be blowing a lot of smoke and day dreaming too.

I think I have bought 5 packs of GYs over the years. It was just tough for me to drop almost $10 on 1 bag of plastic baits. But I have started using them a little more lately, and with the price down and sales at some stores, I might pick up a few more in the future.

are senkos really any better than other stick baits like yum dingers
I have fished them both side by side and caught the same amount bass on each the only difference I can see is the price

Default Some differences

I fish both Senkos and Yum Dingers. I have found that the differences sometimes matter. Senkos are heavier and softer, with (for me) the following applications:
I prefer Senkos:
if I need to cast as far as possible with as little extra weight as possible.
If I want as small of a bait as possible.
If I want to fish weightless in water more than 10' deep.
If the fish demand a s-l-o-w retrieve or absolute deadstick presentation

I prefer Dingers:
For greater flexibility with retrieves: I think they work better with a faster retrieve than senkos and about as well with a slow retrieve.
For wacky: lots more durable, still a good flutter on the fall using a 5".
For shallow (less than 5') water. The slower fall is an advantage.
For heavy weeds. Slower fall, plus easier to pull over the top of pads and millfoil.

In general, I use Dingers about 70% of the time. Still, there have been times when the Senko has been more productive. Another option is to take a look at BassPro's version of the Senko. It seems to be tougher than a senko, but with similar action and priced more like a Dinger.
