Default Why is Lowrance no help?

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me. My brother has a Lowrance LMS 320 combination GSP/fishfinder that he's owned for approximately 2 years. The GSP function works properly, by that I mean that if you track a course you'll be right on the money. What doesn't work is the map overlay. For example, traveiling through an area that is close to land, it will appear that you're driving on the land according the the map. This can cause your heart to skip a beat when it's dark! So we contacted Lowrance to get it repaired but we're told there is nothing wrong with it and it wouldn't pay to send it in because the GPS works. Isn't the map considered part of the GPS? They won't take it as a trade in because it's too new, so we're stuck with a unit that can be a danger to us and anyone around us. Has anyone dealt with something similar to this??
Thanks,

Some GPS units are only accurate to within 300 feet, others to around 100 feet, some to 50 ... that's pretty good considering that the satellite is in space.

The 320 should have WASS built in which is the closest thing you can get to military issue. The WASS systems are good to no more than 9 feet. The sonar shouldn't be reading that you are on land. What state are you from and I'll tell you who to contact.

I'm from NJ. I can understand 9 feet but we're off about 60 feet!
