Default lure retriver

ever hang up a crank bait? ok who has not?? and losing a high end crank just sucks ...

well in a recent club tourny i learned a lure removal technique. i fish alot of rocks and stumps. the lure retriver can be made by every member of this board..and you can make 3 of them for less than $2..

a 3/4 sinker with the brass wire eye. a large snap-can use a coast lock-make sure it does not have a swivel on it. rig it as shown. once you hang up simply attach the big loop to your line close it and send it in after the crank. i found letting the sinker fall a short distance from the crank is better. just bounce the sinker repeatedly up and down. it removes the crank from most hang ups..MOST not ALL.. but enough to make building them worth while..

Hey Skeeter! You need a ladder or a tree climber, or you need to adjust your sites on your rod. Just kidden littleman. I've hung my share in trees over the years.

I've also made made own. I made it with a very heavy banana shaped lead weight that has chains on both ends. I added snaps like yours to the ends of the chains.

I also have an old spool of 30# stealth attached to one end. All I have to do is snap it onto the main line and let it do its thing. The heavy banana weight gets down quickly.

I will be putting that line on an old spinning reel and attach it to an old rod (just the first half) so that retrieval will be easier.

The weird or funny thing is I lost countless lures before I made it. And now that I have it, I've only had one snag that I actually had to employ the retriever. Go figure!

ZOOK

Go back and reread your earlier post. You mean you have a light on upstairs.

Laser that is a great method. I have a couple of Hounddogs that are attached to bouy markers they do a great job but are a hassle to get out attach to the line then untangle from the line and role back up. I also have a telescoping lure retreiver that is good but you also have a lot of steps to get it out and adjust it. All this while the wind or boat wakes are blowing you off the spot. The deal you illustrated could be attached directly to the line droped and used as leverage to knock the lure free the simple reel in and take it off per the clip. It is very uncomplicated and there is no real investment. Good tip. Fish2win

JB,
No, you just send it down the line as is. In the event that you can't get the bait back, just send down another. If this isn't effective then send down a regular lure retriever (there are different types). If all else fails then you get your pole out. If your line hasn't broken by now.

Zook,
Chunk&wind showed me the same technique that you have described years back.

My favorite lure retriver is one I made a few years back. I took a old rod dont matter as long as it has a good handle and about 12" of rod left. Put a old reel on it and spooled it with 80lb. braid, got the top guide on it and 8oz. of lead with heavy wire run through it much like a hound dog. Its short, easy to handle and has never let me down. I aint scared to through some of my best crankbaits into heavy cover even the ones I cant get no more cause I know I am gonna getem back with this contraption.

one day while fishing with a friend from a boat, i got snagged in a tree with my lure about fifty feet away. being the dummy i was, am., etc...i stretched the mono to the limit, and the lure let go from the tree branch and rocketed back to me at a phenomonal rate of speed. i saw it coming straight towards me. i ducked. it nailed my fishing buddy. but, i did say duck a second or two behind he got hit. well, no damage was done, but i learned my lesson about lure retrieval that day. that method just aint safe.........

I stuck Tony once in the head with a rogue, we used to fish them all the time, I think I got him on the backswing of a cast.. those rogues have sticky hooks, man they will grab boat carpet, jeans, heads rofl....we got it out of his noggin' and kept fishing..Tony was my fishing partner in most tournaments in the 90s.. he was club champ twice and me once..

LMAO!! Think about this folks. Why do they call them BULLET sinkers. A buddy of mine used to be the worlds worst about when he got hung up reeling down as far as he could and then (with 25lb test) pulling as hard as he could to straighten out the hook and get his rig back. Many MANY times I have hit the deck ...literally to doge the...BULLET sinker. Well one day it happened and guess what ...He didnt duck. He now carries a reminder...right between the eyes... what a Bullet sinker can do at speeds probably approaching 100mph.

Is a 3/4 OZ sinker enough? I mean I saw some of those stuff their weight were up to 2 OZ, such as "Red Wolf" one.

Thanks, Zooker.
