If you're only gonna get one rod, it's better to have too much, than not enough. If you're using braid, you don't really need a pool cue, just a long rod and a MH action. For reels... highest speed you can. A long handle helps get the bass out. Any quality reel has a drag that can be locked down enough so your rod will break before your line.

Some use braid. I only use braid in muddy water, or heavy cover - anywhere it's truly necessary.
I mostly use heavy fluorocarbon - around 20lbs. You may find you want to go lighter if you want to flip really sparse cover for finicky fish. Or heavier for thicker cover.

Basically - everything stout.

knowing where you fish scotty flippin is definatly something ya need to pick up.. flip and pitching is almost manditory in the fall around docks. it is more a reaction presention..you all make the trip up I-85 and i'll show ya what i mean..

i use basicly my t-rig set up 7 foot mh rod 40 pound braid i tend to go heavier 3/16-1/4 ounce bullet sinkers.. i also do it with a flippin stick 7'6'' x-heavy rod 40 pound braid 1/4 jigs mainly. both tote lefty reels but this is my personal choice. one diawa advantage and a pfluger trion on the other..

I love the posts on the flipping scenes. Especially when folks talk about......we really dont have much cover down here. LOL ANYONE wanna come on down and fish the "JUNGLE" with me COMMMMMME ONNNNNNN DOWWWWWWN. I'll show ya what a 2lb bass can do to a 200lb man yeilding a 7'6" Heavy Action rod spooled with 85lb Lynch Line.
