my first casting rod
and i cant figure out how to use it.....Its a bill dance, not sure on the model, cheap rod and every time i cast the line i get the birds nest or whatever its called where the lines spools loose all over the reel (spindle?). There's a small gold knob under the handle and a button that turns on the other side, numbered one thru ten, neither of which seems to effect the drag. hopefully this is enough for someone to help me out, sorry i dont know my terminology and equipment better...any tips appreciated

what you want to do is hold your rod at a 45 degree angle, then push the casting button, while the lure drops adjust the little knob on the side so when the lure slowly hits the ground under control the spool stops right away!. you won't get any more birds nests! "BUT" remember every time you change you lure or it's weight youll have to reset you knob to compinsate.
Robby.

ryno, take a look here:
http://pages.infinit.net/fishing/bait101.htm That is one of the best sites I have seen for setting up a baitcaster correctly.
