Marty Stone
Say's that crankbaits are to imitate two diff. types of forage, shad and crawfish,so he relies on simple colors that mimic those two bass foods.here they are 1. Tennessee shad 2.citrus shad 3.spring craw and 4.lavender shad.Well what does everyone think???????It does make sense to me...but no sold a 100% tell me what ya think

Yeah those are nice colors and what else would they mimic. Bluegill? Marty Stone has it good cause every year he gets to ask Lucky Craft for pretty much all the baits he wants in all the colors he wants. That would be nice.

I agree with keeping your crankbait colors simple. The only colors of crankbaits I buy now are Tenn. shad, chart. /black back, and a crawfish color.

I don't like shad colors because there are no shad in my lakes. If I use a shad color, I want a purple color or a yellow color in with it. I love the Normans brand Bream or sunfish colors or the old poes chartreuse with black stripes on the side.P N J

well think of it this way 2 colors for clear water and 2 for muddy water. spring craw an tenn shad are clear water baits. citrus shad and lavander are muddy water baits. purple shows up as black in muddy water. the reason zilla's purple headed warrior is so good..

Gonna stir up some chit with this but thats what I do well and also makes for some great discussional debate. Color plays a bigger role than what some people beleive IMHO. The standards are fish producers and always will be. But time aand time again I have taken a lure that was producing say a shad color and been catching fish and the bite slows down. So I try a different color and or size and more often than not start to get bit again. I have always thought of it this way......I love a good hamburger but every now and then I want a steak or a fahita or whatever. Bass will do the same thing. Yes bass do feed heavily on there local forage but everyone is throwing the tennesee shad. So I dig around and come up with say a watermelon color. Same bait, size, same rod and reel and wholla start to wax em. Yes I know that all colors or 90% of them are variations of the standards but they do have a place in my tackle box. There are several lakes around here.....Wallus, Grampus, Wilson, Enterprise......jsut to name a few of my favorites......that are great examples of the so called ODD colors will outproduce the standards.
