yeah i just put sum sufix on it and casted a weight in my back yard a few times...i highly recommend it. I love it. But the thing is, when you try to cast it far it gets bad backlashes bcuz of the spoool spinning soo fast i guess. I spent about 20 minutes tryin to get one backlash out. lol

Welcome to the forum.Yes theyre the same thing, and you are supposed to use your thumb to slow the line, but you still get backlashes sometimes even if you do slow it because the spool moves faster than the line is coming out. Oh and glad to see you followed my advice and joined.

yes you can make a really long cast and then put a peice of electrical tape down to prevent line from coming out too far.

The Abu Garcia reels come with a wrench, oil and centifugal weights in a sealed bag.You have to put the weights on the spool posts to control the backlashes.I am not familiar with the model you got but I suspect that is why your having so much trouble. That or your spool tension knob is not adjusted properly.Let me look for the reels design.P N J

i dont have it yet. its too expensive, so im waiting for my birthday money. ill have it in around 2 weeks. centrifugal weights? brakes? spool posts? tension knob?oh god this is all too scientific... and spinning was so simple... why would i need the wrench?

Pig N Jig- i have used the tension knob, i use the techneque where u hold the rod at eye level drop the bait and if u get a small backlash then u need to tighten the knob

The wrench is needed just to take the handle off, which you may never have to do. Don't get discouraged, theres less to this than it sounds. The brakes work by themselves once they are set up on the inside of the reel. The tension knob is on the side by the handle, and all it is is a little knob that you can tighten down if you are having trouble with backlashes. The tighter it is, the less it will backlash, the looser it is, the farther you can cast. Its very simple once you get your hands on it to take a look-see. It will take a few days practice to get using the baitcaster down pat, but since you are young you will pick it up quickly.

it only took me a couple minutes to learn how to use a baitcaster, it took me a long time to figure out how not to backlash every couple casts.

not if you're careful about what you're doing and pay attention to your line.

on that model some have brakes others do not -depends on bearing count- look for a small slide lever near the spool release flap. if it is not there it is the non brake model. adjust like a 4600 c4

Zooker, If you open the reel up, the crank handle side comes off the 4600C4, on the side of the spool , you will see 2 posts with a plastic centrifugal weight on them. The best overall weight for casting a variety of different weighted lures are the Black. The blue are medium weight, black are heavy weight and to confuse you the White weights were originally the light weight , but now they don't use light weight no more, so the white is a extra heavy weight.I hope this helps you.Abu, I always start with the spool tension knob tight enough so you have to get the lure moving by pulling on the line to allow it to fall slowly to the floor. After a few casts, I slowly adjust it out from there. That reduces any backlashes you are having now.I cut a hook off a jig or use a bell type sinker tied on and practice throwing different weights out in the yard once you are comfortable , soon you will know what minor adjustments you need to do when changing weights.I hope this helps you.
