Default replacing frog hooks?

stupid question that i cant seem to find the answer to but can u replace double frog hooks from frogs such as spro's & paycheck frogs? it seems the only way to do it would be to cut the plastic body?

It could probably be done, but I think it'd be more trouble than it's worth.

For one, the swivel or loop the hook is attached to in the nose of the bait should be epoxied in. And once you break it loose, it's never the same. Also, I don't know how well the double frog hooks with fit hollow frogs, since they're designed to be rigged on plastic toads.

You never did say why you wanted to change out the hooks?

IF it's because they are no longer sharp. They can be sharpened.

Maybe not right away, if your baits are new. But keep in mind, after you do hook a few fish with them, those hooks will not be as sharp as they once were; which might make the difference in landing your BIG FISH.

I have to agree with bb144 and woody here, not really worth replacing the hooks on frogs, but.......having a hook sharpener on hand is adviseable. Think about it, you hook maybe 10 fish, hooks are dull but frog looks ok... resharpen. Another 10 fish and the plastic a goner. Buy another frog. Plus if you have a sharpener on hand you will hit the hooks just to be sure anyway right? Just my couple of pennies.

OWNER makes a 6/0 double frog hook that would be suitable for MOST hollow bodied frogs. Owner makes a SHARP hook.

John after catching 20 fish a Bronze Eye Frog is just starting to get broke in lol. The more beat up they get from catching fish the softer the plastic gets and your hookup ratio starts improving, well up to the point where they start taking on water and then that becomes a bit of a problem.

I don't want to or mean to change the meaning of this thread but I want to mention this point. The way to improve your hook up percentage is to use braid. Also open the gap on the hooks just a bit. Doing these two things helped me a lot. Oh, sharp hooks are good too.

Another thing that hampers your hookup ratio with hollow bodied frogs is the body of the frog not collapsing when a fish eats it. You can help fix this by taking 2 pairs of pliers and stretching the body of the frog out and releasing it several times, this will soften the plastic up and letting it collapse better when a fish blows up on it. If you do this trick on top of opening the hooks up a bit like everettvet said and you will turn a lot more blow ups into caught fish.

I can't offer an answer to your question about changing the hooks, but they do make replacement hooks for them so I would assume there is a way to do it.
