The years first tourney
My friend and I had our first tourney last night at a small private lake community here in southern Ohio. It was windy, cold and had more entries than years past for the seasons first.
In pre fishing the lake on Sunday, we both had good luck with cranks and plastics. It was sunny and 74 on Sunday. Tuesday was 42 and snowing. I had two norman nutter shads and both broke within 10 minutes, we slayed them with these cranks on Sunday and hoped to repeat at the tourney but my partner lost his only one in a tree and mine shattered! We ended up catching only 4 keepers weighing in at 3.70 pounds in a tourney that has a 10 fish limit. A lot of fish were caught, more than we expected and some nice ones too! I tied on a sexy shad as it is the closest thing in my box to the nutter shad and caught 3 of the 4 bass taken. The Normans broke way too easily and even though we had great success with them since late February, I feel the sexy shad is close enough for my needs. Had a huge bass come off with a Kinami plastic earlier while pre fishing but the wind kept us from dragging plastics. Maybe the normans will hold up in warmer weather, maybe. Next tourney is on the 21st. Bass Pro will see me before then!!! |

sounds like a tough tourney, spring weather has a way of screwing things up. hang in there warmer months are on the way.
