Default Update about Nancy and her cancer fight.

After further tests, it was confirmed she has a very agressive form of breast cancer on both sides. She visited a wonderful surgeon yesterday, a woman doctor who has been recommended to her by other cancer patients who love this doctor. She has advised Nancy to undergo hormone therapy and chemo to shrink the tumors first, and then surgery to follow. She was very thoughtfull, carring, and understanding and encouraging. She was also very supportive of Nancys wish for another opinion which she is going to get this comming Thursday at Northwestern University.

This is in stark contrast to the first surgeon Nancy went to see who showed absolutely no personal interrest, but was simply business as usual. Showed no empathy or consideration of Nancys wishes. Dismissed her questions and wanted to schedule a double masectomy now. And absolutely refused to rebuild the breasts at the time of the surgery, stating to Nancy, "we don't do that anymore. It's too much trouble and time consuming." When Nancy told her she wanted another opinion, this surgeon was very miffed and pretty much showed Nancy the door. Needless to say, Nancy will not revisit THAT surgeon!

So next week, she visits Northwestern University to speak with them. They have a great cancer team specifically for breast cancer, so I will let you know what she finds out there after she visits them.

Thanks again for your prayers and keep them comming. It's very much appreciated. Nancy asks that I thank you all for your prayers.

My sister had breast cancer twice (mastectomy both times) about 35-40 years ago and ovarian 20 years ago. She is active, healthy and fit, enjoying her senior citizen years.

A cousin had a double mastectomy (one was cancerous and she preemptively had the other removed) within the last 10 years when she was in her 30s. She had breasts built during the same surgery and is now thriving, raising two pre-teens.

I hope these stories from my family can offer some hope and inspiration.

My very best wishes to Nancy and all her loved ones.

My wife had an aggressive form of breast cancer (HER 2) three years ago and was fortunately diagnosed early enough that a "lumpectomy" did the job. Her cancer doctor, radiologist and surgeon were all first rate and that makes a HUGE difference. I thank God for that every day. We'll continue to pray!
