As of this min. The Yankees pre-season game. Yep, I'm a huge Yankee baseball fan.

I've basically stopped playing music on my car radio these days. I just get the news, then I plug in my MP3 player, which I've also stopped playing music on for now. I've discovered the world of audiobooks that I download from my local library. Now there's a great idea.

Jim, I just finished Tom Brokaw's Boom. Being a Baby Boomer of the 60's it sure brought back a lot of memories. Some good, some not so good.

The only thing that gets me about audio books is how long it takes to listen to them , I read extremely fast and can finish a 400 to 600 page book in 2 ta 3 days so taking a week or so to listen to it here and there kills me a bit . But i enjoy it enough to keep listening to them .

Jim, That's been my biggest problem. The vast majority of people can read much faster then they can speak. Hence, the 600 page book I just finished took more then 16 hours. The play time is actually listed with the book description on the library's web site. That coupled with the fact that they only "lend" you the book for 7 days is a tough nut to crack at times. My max time is 1 hour travel time to and from work, and generally a 1+ before lights out per day. So I need to calculate the max time per book to make sure I can finish it within my time frame.

I can sometimes get a couple hours in a day at work and maybe an hour while at home and that is about it. So it has taken about a month to listen to 4 books out a a 28 book series .

Where are you getting your audiobooks from? Sounds like you have a much longer loan period then I do.

I listened to an audiobook of Huck Finn recently, and while it might be said to be a lazy way to "read" Twain, it was sorta neat how the dialects make you feel like you are there. Then I tried to follow it up with Uncle Tom's Cabin and found the format tedious. I think I should take it on a case by case basis.

I agree with there, you get a different feel for the story when listening to it rather than reading it . I have read all the books in the series I am currently listening to and just thought it would be a different way to enjoy the story and i haven't been let down .

WTH?

OK, so we were talking about Pandora a couple pages back playing odd selections.

Well I have it on Pink Floyd radio. For the past 2 days it has played great, spacy, epic classic rock. Not 1 song has been shorter than 4 minutes or made after 1990.

And it just played basketcase by Greenday. I mean I'm clueless on that one.

Up at 0400 (pretending I'm gonna get to fish)
Just finished this:

And diggin' this now:

Pretty fine High School Band, BTW. (No fiddles!)
When I last played it (our Municipal Band) we had 22 brass from one high school on the left side of the balcony and 22 more on the right, hidden in the dark. They come in at about 8:00 in this particular vid, although this group doesn't use that effect, called "Antiphonal" (sound against sound, basically.)
The audience didn't know there were 44 brass behind and above them and were perplexed when the conductor turned AWAY from us and kept conducting. Then they nearly jumped out of their hides as they got blasted by our brass and the 44 in the balcony from three directions. Good times!
I used to have a video from a cam trained on the audience and you'd crack up watching them react.
Oh, just watch/listen. A little culture won't hurt ya'!

I've been privileged to play "First Desk" trumpet on both pieces more than once and I still feel the thrill of it.

Ive been listening to pod casts a lot lately. But Music often ends up beingplayed with the shuffle songs option on my ipod.

I got one of those ipod fm transmitters for my truck for christmas and that has been helping with my music listening lately.
