Moving to New York
My wife has been looking for a job everywhere from south Texas to upstate New York and finally found the one that fits in the Adirondacks. I've been pretty much unemployed for a while and waiting for her to find a job so we can move and start over and this is it. By the end of August we will be moving to Saranac Lake, NY. We went there last week to check it out and it seems like a great place, aside from the brutal winters. It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have seen. And I can't wait to be an hour from Champlain and 2 hours from 1000 Islands!
Just thought I would share this and see if anybody has any info on the area or moving to New York state in general. We will of course have to register the boat, cars, etc. and all other fun stuff. |

Nofear, I think I'll pass.
44, I think we are going to be on our way up there by the end of August. Bama, I sure wish she was making a little more money, then I would fish all the time. My job, which has become less than part time, is barely getting us by but seems to be picking up so we'll see. Most of my work is done on the phone/email so I can be about anywhere. The bad part is there is no regular income, only based my me doing service calls to customers when they need it. Mallen, The winters up there are suppose to be similar to yours, or maybe closer to the UP. Brrrrrr. |

B - don't pass up Saranac to fish Champlain. It's a sweet lake with some nice largemouths and pike. I fished it years ago and can remember fishing spinnerbaits over the grass beds. I also found nice largemouths in very clear shallow water on laydowns. ESPN held the fishing competions for the Outdoor games on the Saranac chain. Peter T won a couple of gold medals catching quality smallmouths.

Not sure how far you are from the Salmon Run river, but near the end of Sept. first week in Oct. the fishing is ridiculous for steelheads, kings, coho's and atlantics...nothing like catching a 30lb salmon on a fly rod..I will be fishing there at the end of Sept.
