Default Help with rods

I've been wondering lately about rods and what rod is best for different presenations. I mean i know the basics, but its kind of got confusing to me lately. I know with frogs, jigs, flipping, pitching, carolina rigs you would want at least a MH. But texas rigs, i hear some people fish them on a MH but then i hear some that fish them on M, what would be the best choice in that situation? And the same for spinnerbaits, i hear some MH and some M, what would be best?

Also what would be best for the finesse stuff, M or ML?

If you could also leave input for what lengths for each application, i would appreciate that.

Sorry its a lot of questions i just got kind of confused.

It is easy to get confused, no question. I use the following:

For treble hook baits and spinnerbaits I use a M action rod-less chance of pulling the hooks out of the fish's mouth. I use an Allstar spinnerbait rod which is a M action-otherwise I'd use a MH action for spinnerbaits.

For single hook baits like worms and soft jerkbaits I use MH.

For flipping, C-rig and jigs I use a heavy action due to the hook setting power they have.

ml rods are ok if all your going to throw is a 4"inesse worm.. it will not give a good hook set with any thing else..

mh the way to go..

I use poppers, buzzbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits and spinnerbaits all on a medium rod. So this set up should be alright. What lb line would be best for this set up?

I just bought a ML for my finesse stuff, but the tip is chipped so it rubs at my line and frays it and then it breaks, so i have to take it back would i be better just to get a M? Because i want this rod to be my finesse/weightless senko set up?

ok,there was just a thread about .lb test of line.you should try doing a search. personaly,i use 15lb clear or green big game for spinnerbaits.i use a mh rod for texas rigs and spinnerbaits, because i usaully fish these lures in or around cover,so you sorta have to horse the fish out of the cover.

Thanks for the input Skeeter.

The reason i was asking about all this is because i was trying to get my set ups right.

What do yall think about them:

7' M Spinning combo -8lb line
-Finesse
-Drop Shot
-Split Shot
-light tackle

6'6" MH Spinning-15lb line
-texas rigs
-weightless plastics: senkos, flukes
-spinnerbaits

6'6" M Baitcaster combo-12lb line
-buzzbaits
-poppers
-shallow crankbaits
-jerkbaits

7' MH Baitcaster combo- 20lb line
-jigs
-carolina rigs
-deep crankbais

Any input is more then welcome, change line size, put lure on different combo, anything.

change the 7 foot mh bait caster to a heavy action rod it will work better for every thing but the deep crank..

rest looks ok..

the 6'6'' medium-heavy spinning rod with 15lb line IMO, has too heavy a line,i would put 12lb at the most on it and put the 15lb on the 6'6'' medium baitcaster. also,i like fishing texas rigs, senkos, and spinnerbaits on a baitcaster,so if i were you,i would change that setup to a 6'6'' meium-heavy baitcaster, but thats just my my opinion. another thing, these are your setups, you are going to be the one who fish's with them,so take these opinions with a grain of salt. welcome to the forum BTW!

Well the 12lb on the spinning is good, because i have 12lb on there but i was going to change it, but i guess ill leave it.

If i was to put the weightless plastics, spinnerbaits, and texas rigs on a MH baitcaster, could i put the buzzbaits, jerkbaits, popppers and shallow cranks on the MH spinning or is that to stiff?

I know this is a lot of questions but i just cant seem to get my rigs set up.

you aren't asking too many questions. you could throw the buzzbaits on the mh baitcaster also, since it is basiclly a spinnerbait. the other stuff should be fine, because spinning usaully have a bit less power than they are rated for compared to baitcaster rods. so the mh spinning rod should be about a medium baitcaster.

Being that im on a budget (having to pay some college tuition) i kind of have to find combos that will be used for more then one type of fishing.

But again thanks for all the advice it has been a lot of help. Im kind of just experimenting as to what i like to use on what, since im pretty much new to the sport. Just needed some advice to get me started off right.

For texas rigs, I try to get ultimatre sensitivity, and power. I use a MH Falcon Lowrider rod, with a Pfleuger Maxx spinning reel, and 30# Stren Superbraid. This lets me feel every tick, but I am able to haul in the biggest bass.
