Default Topwater Color

What is the most universal color for a popper/walk the dog type bait? I was thinking chrome black or an all white. Any advice is welcome and needed.

I use black at night. During the day I usally start with white in dark water and baitfish colors in clear water. These produce a lot of big fish for me.

Most of my topwater baits are white or chrome on the bottom, some have orange, chart or red spots, etc.

black top and sliver bottom is pretty much the standard here, although I have good luck on the white bottom poppers or translucent, anything that looks like a shad

I just had to have the P50 about 15 years ago, Rebel makes that one, plus its weighted alot more than others. The tranlucent with blue works on the river, but 90% of the time I throw P65(blk. and siver)
I own the firetiger and other colors like blue and white, and on most of them I gathered up chicken feathers from the nearby farm, and tied them on as the heckle (rear treble)

In low light conditions I like a topwater to have a dark color, such as black. Strangely enough, although it does not sound right, a dark lure such as black shows up better in low light conditions. Durring daylight conditions, if I do use a topwater, I try to go with a more natural color such as shiner, or other minnow color.

I like the P65 as well, even have 3 P70's left. There was a big hubbub about it a year or so ago, everyone had to have one, it's the same thing as the 65, just a bit heavier...

I got on the zell rowland bandwagon in the mid 90's after he was red hot with top water and esp. popR fishing, he had a signature series that came out, with shaved sides and a sharper cupped mouth, and with more glitter strands in the tail. I've caught the most on black and silver, in both sizes.

Looks like good choices to me. I have a Slim Dog style bait in a gold color with an orange belly, and black back that works great. The YO-ZURI companies version. I can't stay awake long enough to fish night time either JB, LOL Not as long as I have to get up at 5AM every day. Ughhhh.
