a spinner is in line baits they are ok in weed free areas. these you need a leader and/or a swivel as line twist can be god awefull..
a spinner bait is a clothes pin style bait. if tuned right they are almost totally weedless..an bass/pike love them.. this is a spinnerbait jool i know i forgot to say it but welcome to the site.. bass fishing is umm complicated at best, frustrating at worst. it is truely rare that we get a younger-than most- member with better than MOST members at asking a good quality question. not to mention good grammer...even tom -the grumpy old fart-would find this refreshing.. zooker

On spinners I like using swivels in the smallest size I can get by with.

I wouldn't use a swivel with a spinnerbait.
A spinner can cause your line to twist so a swivel is good for this application.

Lizards has a trick about using a swivel with a spinnerbait hell tell, because I don't know how to word it. If you are using a swivel, try to get ball bearing ones, they are more pricey, but worth it IMO.

Welcome Jool.....The only time I ever use a swivel is when i throw a rooster tail and on a Carolina rig. It keeps your line from twisting. I think a swivel is a week spot between your line and your bait. You will break off fish enough with line to bait.

Welcome!
Looks like the picture of a spinnerbait is covered. Spinners usually refer to what are called "inline" Spinners because all of the components that comprise it are in series or in line with each other. Vibrax, Rooster Tail, Mepps and Panter Martins are examples Both are quite effective at catching a wide variety of fish species. Here is a sample of inline spinners. Homemade, baby!
