i like junebug or an electric grape color for those type waters. also,i like baits that move alot of water, like 6'' brush hogs,10'' ribbontail worms, and 8'' lizards.

i use darker colors in murky waters..in clear water, i match what type of baitfish there are. if i dont know what kind of baitfish the bass eat, i use brighter colors like yellow, white, and clear.

We used to have murky water but its really getting almost too clear now in all the lakes, best colors for murky water are junebug, black, black and chartruse...if its just stained and overcast go with a firetiger crankbait or
chartuse lures.
If its really muddy fish close to cover and use a rattle.

The local pond is weird... it switches up like crazy. sometimes crystal clear, sometimes murky. but i do know wacky rigged worms work great, in darker brownish/purple colors

Here is the rule of thumb I use:

Clear water-darker, more natural colors.
Stained-add some color like chartreuse.
Muddy-depends on the sky conditions. Sunny-bright colors and darker colors when it is cloudy or dark.

No I usually stay in the Santee Cooper area whenever I get down there from VA. Columbus Day weekend I'll be down there in the swamps.

Ok now what constitutes clear water or murky water? In Santee Cooper if the water isn't running you can see down about 1-1.5 feet now would that be considered clear?

rule of thumb?? is just that....
you have to experiment with known baits to find the one that works.. this is the time consuming part of fishing. take a good look at the water in the back ground it is clear vizability is about 4 feet. now look closly at the bait. now ask your self just how good is the rule of thumb??? and how far outside the box do we as bass fisherman have to think??

I like blacks, browns, purples, and greens in all conditions. Those are my soft plastics, and those are the colors that will alway work. Usually its cinnamon, or jet black, no flakes. On buzzbaits or chatterbaits, I like white/ chartuese, or just white, or chartuese. Spinnerbaits, are white, chartreuse, yellow, and black.

IMO, (haha now i can say it), anyways i found for smallmouth either veryy dark or extremley flourescent colors work good. with largmout, i always use darker. that is just what i do, and they work the same on smallmouth. it is just about the colors. it is the action. say you throw a pink swim bait and move it around, like your supposed to, and actually fish it like you're supposed to, a fish will hit it. if you throw a dark colored swimbait in, and just let it sit there and dont fish it right, then they wont hit it.

I've fished all three, and had success in all three types of water, and I use two colors. Green Pumpkin, and Red Shad. That's it.

I don't have a ton of tackle, but I've probably got 15 crankbaits, 10 spinnerbait/chatterbaits, and tons of worms. Out of all of them, I use the GP and RS worms, along with a rootbeer crankbait, white and black spinners/chatterbaits.

i like to use a dark color in murky water. but i also like to use chartruese and green. clear water-try and match the foreage. chartruese,white,purple,etc...
are normally great all around choices. also remember right now bass are getting ready for winter so they will be stocking up on food soon, if not already.
