Bass tournaments
I've always wondered about this, where do they release all the fish that were caught during the tournament?

Locally, they release right there at the weigh-in site.

Yea like Mac said either locally or they take them, by boat, to an undisclosed location on the lake.

I'm heading out Sunday afternoon/evening, and they are having a tourny at my ramp. I just might try fishing in the area for a change, and not run to the other end of the lake so fast.

I have won tournys by not blasting off with everyone else and fished within 300 to 500 yards of the landing.
It can work if there is stuff to hold fish near by.

Some of my best catches were within a few hours after a tourney, usually 50 yards away from the ramp per hour... just follow the usual path ways as they go back to their home spot.

I was up at Lake Oneida last year for day 3 of the Bassmaster's and watch them put the fish into a big pontoon tanker boat. Dont know how far out they released them but would be interesting to see how they go about releasing them during multi-day tourney's.

Most of our tournaments here just release the fish at the weigh in sight. However some of our bigger ones do have a life release boat which takes them out and releases them in the lake. Fishing around ramps that have a lot of tournaments out of them is for sure a good way to catch a lot of keepers.

We had a big FLW tournament on lake Ouachita weekend before last.....and I read that the final weigh in was held in some new Arena complex at Hot Spring, Arkansas.....I think that put the weigh in site several miles from the marina they lauched out of. I wondered first off, how they delt with the bass in the livewells during the trip into town? And then where did they release them after the whole awards ceremony was over?

king
they use a semi trailer with these big aerated tanks on them. when they weighin say a flw or something. they take the fish out back and put them in these tanks. after the weigh in is over. they take the fish back to the launch site using a net they scope the bass out and put them back in the lake... zooker

Stren/American (FLW) series on the river have used pontoon boats with large aerated tanks to hold the fish. After every flight or two they take them out to the channel and release them.
I believe that last's years fish kill was a result of one of the tanks malfunctioning and the bass didn't get enough O2 in one of the boats and this caused the kill. |
