Default New Baitcaster

I got some good info in my thread about a new rod, so now I'm going to ask about a new reel. I'm mainly planning on using it for jigs, texas rigging, and maybe some carolina rigging. Needs to be $150 and under. Recommendations?

For that price I would search to find a Curado E7, that can be had at that price. You would be lucky to find a reel at that price that could go toe to toe with an E7 and win.

I can't knock the BPS JM, because I have never used it, but I can highly recommend the Curado. I saw them on ebay the other day for 138.00 (free shipping).

I wish i wasnt so into the asthetics of reels. I have never heard a bad thing about Shimano, but i just think they look so boring. I know i shouldnt care about looks as much as function, but thats me...

HS Revo SX can also be had for around that price as well.(ebay).
A very sweet reel for the price.

Yeah, the REVO is ALMOST as good as the Pflueger. I'm going to convert your thinking Walker, yes I am.

The XT is one sweet reel indeed, I think I talked Walker in to buying one!

In the $150 range I would definitely look at the Shimano Curado. It's a great reel that, as was mentioned, can be found on Ebay for under $140. Its green color will also look great on a Powell Max rod!

Let me scooch on in here on this one.

Set your alarm clock for this Friday morning around 7am. Eat a good breakfast. Grab one of your old reels that still work that you don’t use any more. Haul it down to Bass Pro Shops. Give it to them…let them look it over. They’ll give you a coupon for a discount on a new reel. Walk over to the reel section and steal the Johnny Morris Signature Bass Caster. So let’s see, the reel is $159.99, -$25.00 for your reel trade in, you get the new one for $134.99.

Everyone has their preference and opinion regarding reels. My opinion is that you’d be absolutely nuts to buy any other reel at a higher or lower price if you have the means for this one. PERIOD! In fact, while you’re there go through all of the other reels. Even the ones locked in the case that cost upwards of $300 plus. Several of the Bass Pro reps told me that they have the $300 plus Shimannos and they haven’t used them since buying the previous Johnny Morris Gold Series which is now the Signature Series Bass Caster.

I would have definitely considered the Johnny Morris. But the closest Bass Pro is at leasst 2 hours from me and I won't be around there until the end of March.

Good score!

@fish4942: Sounds like a good plan, but that would be a 1.5 day's drive to get to the nearest BPS in Manteca, CA from WA State.

You're at a good price point for a quality baitcast reel. It's almost hard to go wrong. Curado, Revo SX, Pflueger President, Daiwa TD-A are all right in that area. You can get good deals on any of them second hand, both current and past models and not worry much about them holding up, especially the Curado and TD-A.
