Default Irons fork lake pics

This is our local water supply lake of about 300 acres.....its very remote and only has a couple of camping spots so its never crowded....even on Memorial weekend.....In fact there was only one camp site and 3 boats on the lake today.

As you can see from the pics I started the morning in a cove covered in grass and pads.....I just knew a topwater frog was gonna be the ticket.....Boy was I wrong...hehehe Not a single bass bite all morning.....I switched lures several times trying buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, plastic worms and creature baits.....NOTHING!!!!

Finally as the sun was getting higher I had a blow up on a Ragetail toad as I worked it thru a grass patch......but he missed it.....recast....another miss....I did that 6 times in a row and he missed it every time.....I'd follow up with a worm or tube bait and nothing....I came back 30 minutes later and ripped the toad thru that spot again,and he blows up on it and misses..and again, and again.....another 6-8 times.....I finally tossed in a spinnerbait a few minutes later and he hooked up and the fight was on....only to find out it wasn't a bass at all...it was a Chain Pickerel. We didn't even know they were in this lake....lol.

As the sun got higher my buddy Ron ran across some crappie as he was working a Road runner thru the grass....Since I wasn't gettin any Largemouth hits, I switched over to Road runners, and joined in the fun....lol We ended up fishing those baits for the remainder of the time we were there, and caught Bluegills, Warmouths, Rockbass, Punkinseed, Crappie, Pickerel, and Saugeye, in everything from 1ft to 24ft deep water.....lol....What a crazy fun day.

I cleaned fish for an hour once I got home.....That actually felt good and I didn't mind at all, although I can tell I need some serious practice with my fillet technique.....Its been awhile.....In fact that might be another subject i'd like to talk about more in another thread.

Here's a few pics I took this morning....I love sunrises and sunsets over water. The only picture I took of fish was the Pickerel since we didn't know for sure what it was....lol....Maybe next trip ol' Bucketmouth will show up and cooperate....lol.

That is some beautiful scenery, 66! I woulda just sat there lookin at it until I remembered I was there to fish! lol
When I was in the Navy, during a long cruise, I was night shift. Water hours were at certain times, so you showered when you were allowed to. One hour before our shift ended in the morning, we'd hit the showers, then breakfast, then watch the sun come up over the water, and smoke until it was time to go to sleep.
Heckuva way to end the work shift.
Thanks!

@66KingFisher

VERY nice pics.

With your permission, and if you can email me high resolution versions of the first two (top left, top middle) to info@uberstudent.org , I'd like to include them as desktop backgrounds in the UberStudent Linux distro I lead up. http://uberstudent.org

Stew, I don't have a problem with my photos being used in a non-profit educational aspect, and placed inside your software to be used for background wallpaper.....In fact I think that's kinda cool.....My only request is that my name is shown as the photographer, and I retain all rights to the photos.

I've always heard that a Blakemore Roadrunner would catch anything that swims.....I now believe they are correct.
