Opening day success!
Well my dad and I were able to get out and fish for 3 hours this morning and it wasn't all that bad. Wind, cold and 49* water temps made for a GREAT trip! It made for an easy day of fishing as all we did was chuck traps (I'm so glad I have 15 rods in the boat!) So the count was 2 bass and 5 pike and no lost baits for me and 1 bass, 1 walleye and 1 pike for dad.

Sounds like you guys picked the right lake, from what I hear the Oakland County lakes were tough. Great first day!

Thanks guys. It was a lot of fun to get out with my dad. Houghton Lake is where my dad learned to fish and where he helped my Grandpa build 2 cabins (1 is still standing) when he was a boy. The walleye meant a lot to him as he and his dad would fish for them all the time. It's his first in nearly 15 years as he has moved away from MI, but is now back.
Oh, and on Sunday we ended up getting another walleye... well my 4 year old daughter did. I'll post some pictures tonight. |

Hey MI-b, that's great -- both that you caught fish and to be out there with your dad!
