Default Its not yet Halloween and I done Spooked me a fish...

Only it wasn't a bass...lol. I had this crazy grass carp do its best largemouth bass imitation, and just exploded on a Zara Spook this afternoon.....I was fishing with a newly aquired inexpensive Bill Dance Quantum spinning combo that really got its first serious workout with this fish....I had the drag snugged up pretty tight and its was singing...lol....But it did its job I suppose and everything held....The fish weighed roughly 5-6# on Rons 50# scales. All I know is even though it wasn't a bass, she gave me a good fight and ran me all around the boat for a couple of minutes before being landed and then released.....I never caught a carp like that before, but it was a blast and I'll gladly do it again.

What do they call carp(other than "junk fish")...freshwater bonefish. An under utilized resource here in America. Nice fish, who would have ever thought, on a zara spook, I've caught them on dry flys, but a big top-water??? They do grow to be rather large...

I had a buddy in high school that loved to fish for carp using a mixture of Wheaties and strawberry pop for bait, and he would catch a bunch of them...some bigguns too....lol.

So did it fight good? I heard they are brutish fighters, which is not bad for a herbivore of a fish.

That was the best part....lol....I was using a 7' spinning rod with 12# mono, and he gave me a great fight.

I used to go carp fishing with my Grandpa from time to time. They are a blast to catch. They get really big and fight really well. We always let them go but I've heard they are really good to eat if you know how to prepare them.
