For those of you who do not know,

Wind = bird's nest

I was fishing in 20mph winds today. I quickly found out that casting into the wind was not a good idea. Normally, if I get any backlash at all it is minor, but today I had about five casts that took several minutes to pick out. I adjusted the brakes, and that seemed to help.

Also, I'm sad to say I've gotten skunked the last three times out - no bass at all. But, I'm still going out tomorrow.

I usually try to keep the rod tip parallel to the water and throw as low as possible when fishing towards the wind on real windy days.
Ya don't get quiet as far a cast, but the wind has less of a chance to pick your lure out and slow it, as the spool keeps free spooling, before your thumb has time to figure out whats happening.

My sentiments exactly. You can chunk one of those into hurricane force winds-just ask Zooker

You dont pull on supermans cape, you dont ps into a window fan and you dont cast into a 20 MPH wind with bait casting reels. The other part was 3 x 0. Maybe it is time to adjust your location. If you are still on fall patterns it is time to go to winter patterns. That usually means spinniing gear, different lures and locations. Try a hair jig and pork or a Silver buddy on a bluff point 20 to 30 feet deep. I bet that cures all your problems. Fish2win

You don't mess with big Jim either. I am with JB, roll cast, low trajectory just off the water on the casting.keep the lure and rod tip down. You should always have the rod tip so that when your lure reaches the target you can thumb the spool to stop the lure motion and drop your rod tip so the lure is quiet on the water entry.A soft jig entry will get you alot more bites than a jig that plops through the water surface. LMAO@zook What a blast. 1/2oz spinnerbait and wind the bestthere is. Throw it into the wind......end up with a new earring in blue glimmer color and a he@@uva backlash to take your mind off your new earring.

actually prefished friday and touny fish saturday in 40-60mph winds this year. biggest problem i kept having was line looping over the next dock,stumps. the spinnerbait or crankbait went straight 90 feet but had 150 feet of line out..

Been catching some good fish lately (Wed). Get ready, chances are that were gonna catch that 3 lber first thing. Thats of course if we hit my spots first, (which we will !) Good news for you , I caught several good fish from the back of Bassenforcer's boat. Hope there's a little overcast, that bright sun makes the fish get real tight. But I know that you know that Badin has a load of "lay downs", as well as stumps. (They apparently did stock that lake with bass.) We'll be ok, thats if knowone gets on our spots before we do, however at 60 mph that shouldn't be a problem. So therefore all I have to say is HANG ON !

You can always add weight to the bait to help with the wind, however even with the roll cast or sidearm, you are still taking a risk. I actually will do a lot of pitching to keep the bait low and out of the wind, and can still get the bait out there a ways. Or go with spinnig gear. And you don't badmouth zooker when he's within hearing distance either LMAO.

baitcasting isn't hard once you get the hang of it... I got one for Christmas and am already pretty good at it!!! Once you get the hang of it you'll be catching em' in no time!!!
