HP hooks?

Any one use these rather than off set, or wide gap hooks? In a book I've got, it was going through the different kinds of hooks, one of them was an HP hook. It looked like I'd be great for fishing thick grass and hydrilla, the gap would not catch on the grass, and J hooks don't hold the worm on well! Also, how do you thread an HP hook onto a worm?

Edit: Just looked at BPS for them, HP means "High-Performance" eagle claw makes them.

Those hooks are mostly used for Tube fishing I believe. gamakatsu makes a version fairly similar for t-rigging tubes.

I don't think they call it an HP hook. But I can't find a link either. Maybe they don't make it any more.

I use those exact same hooks. I love them for tube fishing unless you are using thick or double dipped tubes, then the clip doesn't close fully. Tubes last longer and don't fall down the hook.

I used HP hooks for years, mostly for smallie fishing with tubes. Still do occasionally. Like BassinID said, baits last longer when you use em and they don't slide down the hook, plus they work well with internal tube weights.

Unfortunately the eyes usually aren't closed enough and there is often a significant gap where your line can slip off, so you have to squeeze em shut with pliers or be careful of where you tie. There are instructions for rigging on the back of the package, it's pretty simple.

I have used them for years. Used to be called Shaw Grisby hooks.
