Default Stuck drag

I managed to get a rather bad backlash yesterday. They type that can only happen when your lure it stuck to an item behind you. (In this cast the tip of my other rod) during the cast. I screwed with the birdsnest for about 5 minutes before accepting it was time to restring the reel. I tried the tighten the drag and reel technique, but it wouldn't even reel.
I restrung it this morning, and everything appears to be normal, but my drag won't loosen as much as it did previously. I can still get it to run some drag, but it takes a lot more force than before.
I have totally disassembled the reel to check for debris, but it looks clean.
The star is not misthreaded and the washers look fine.

Any ideas what I am missing?
It is a Johnny Morris Signature, 6 months old.

Yep Bama. I cleaned it out and applied the same light oiling as normal. It was working fine before I decided to try and catch the shore bass behind me.

You've got me stumped. My first guess was the washers until I got to the last part of your post that said the washers were fine. I regret that your issue is beyond the scope of my limited (very limited) knowledge.

I do not suggest this to anyone, but while messing with this reel (for the 4th time yesterday) I tossed it on to the work bench in disgust. THere is a good chance that tossed is an understatement. Anyway, following the sudden thud with the bench, it works again. I have no clue how or why. I had taken this thing all the way down three times already. Oh well, it is working again.

Good news. But it probably wasn't the "toss" that fixed it, it was the magic words you shouted to the heavens as you "tossed" it.

Cass, I know its an afterthought now, but do you crank your drags down and not relieve the pressure while they aren't being used? I know this can make some drags stick after a while. It happened to an abu of mine and I had to disassemble the drag and pull the washers apart to make it work again.

I always loosen them when not in use. That being said, I am very fortunate that I get a line in the water 5-6 days a week. Most are lunch time 1 hour sessions, but I don't have a rig that goes more than 2 days between uses.

As far as the "magic word". I wonder if it will work on my wife when I am not happy with her?

Weird. The same thing happened to my bud the other day with his Shimano Citica E. I'll go throw it at a bench.
