Default What combo to buy?

My Mother-In-Law gave me a $100 bill to buy fishing stuff, since she didn't know what I needed. I have all spinning rods, for fresh and inshore fishing. But I would like to get a baitcaster on an Ugly Stick. I don't want to spend $100 on just a reel. I don't think I need that for most of the fishing I do.

So, what combo would you folks suggest. I'm going to BPS in Myrtle Beach to buy it. Is the Bass Pro Shop line just as good as any for what I do? Looks like a good combo can be had for under $100.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah BPS line is good for the money plus they have excellent waranty on all their reels. I would look into the proqualifiers or the extremes

If you are going to BPS look at the Extremes. They are all I use-smooth, durable, and will not cost an arm and a leg. You can get an Extreme combo for less than $100 or right at it I think. I am not a big fan of the BPS rods, though-I don't like the hump handle they have.

most of my rod/reel combos are BPS, have had little problems with any of it. I have had no problems w/ service either.

Thanks guys. I had looked AT THE BPS eXTREMES, and wondered if they would do the trick. Glad to know they will. I really lean toward the Ugly Stick for a rod. Since I don't have a baitcaster yet, I'll look for one of those too.

What are the differences in these two combos? To me, it looks like the reel on the $100 model is a lot better.

The bottom one has one more bearing I believe. bearings can be misleading however cause they do not necessarily put them on the spool. The one on the bottom should last longer than the one on the top. It all depends on how you take care of your reels though. I got a extreme from 4 years ago that is still kicking strong.

The extreme reels have been one of the consensus favorites whenever this question has been asked in the past. For the money, the performance is incredible.

I use Abu Garcia, but for a first baitcaster I'll go on the record and recommend the BPS Extreme. You can't even get a Garcia for 50$, except for those plastic ones they sell in the aisle at walmart.
