Default Ordered the new rig TODAY!!

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered my first bass boat. I picked up a Triton 17 Explorer with a 90 merc. Not the fastest or the best, but will be great for me. I also have it coming with the Lowrance LMS-520c in the dash and they are moving the X52 to the front. So now I just need to wait till April!

So, what type of cover should I get? A Triton or one from Bass Pro Shops or a custom made? Also, besides the life jacket and fishing gear, what else should I have in the boat?

Thanks, and see you guys on the water!

What, besides fishing gear?

Spark plug wrench, piss bucket, visegrips or channel locks, JB Weld, knife, fire extinguisher, flashlight, air horn (don't know if the tritons have one though), make sure you have plenty of battery power, at least the startin battery and a deep cycle but prefer 2 deep cycles the starting battery and some jumper cables.

I thought they might, I know we are required over a certain lenght limit in alabama to have that stuff.

Oh, and something to pull your boat or other boats with just in case someone gets stuck on the water.

Just a very strong and handy 2 part epoxy. Actually, pick up a pack of JB kwick instead - its the fast drying. Comes in handy for all sorts of stuff.

i carry a spare prop and wrench. Also, dont know what the laws are like in your state but in Ky you have to have a throw cushion or some type of throwable floatation device. Another thing that might save you are some spare fuses. Check your panel and your motor to see what sizes you need.

A boat plug is one of those things that its smart to tie down to the area. Just give you 8 inches of twine and tie it to something so you know its in there.

That is also the law here in MI. It needs to have a rope tied to it and be "easily accessible". Some define that differently, when I was stopped last year on St. Clair I had mine under the console and they said it was good, but in a compartment will not work. On the inland lakes I keep it stowed though.

Thanks Bender. I've been on the water for 20 years. But we've only had a Four Winns, not easy to fish out of. Boater safety was done at 12 yrs old. Maybe see you on Kent Lake some time. I work in Wixom so I'll be there once or twice a week....

Again, nice boat, MI!

I'll look for you out there. We may be having another Tuesday evening "league" if you are interested. I don't have any details yet, but I can keep you posted.

Heck yeah don't forgett the extra plugs. I was fishing a tourney on Cave Run Lake and my partner backed me in and went to park the truck. He came back and got in the boat and we trolled out waiting for blast off. My boat is a deep v aluminum boat and we were putting our gear together and he had on croc shoes and his feet got wet. It was still dark and I never will forget the look on his face when he said we are taking on water. I put a new plug in before we got launched and it fell out. Totally my fault but I reached down and plugged the hole with my thumb and turned the bilge on untill he got back from the truck with another plug. We pumped water for over 30 minutes. It wasn't funny at the time but it is now.

Thanks guys. I did forget the pug on my jetski once... That was pretty funny.... I couldn't figure out why the rear end was sinking so much!! It turned out just fine though. Anyway, picked up pretty much everything that I need except for the cover. Now I just need to learn how to fish!!

On a side note, does anybody have the LMS-520c in Michigan? Do I need to buy the extra card for the lakes here in Michigan?
