Default new PB in Michigan also !!!!

I was looking at that beauty that WIBassmaster caught and posted on today...must be a good day in the upper-midwest. I told my Bro-in-law I seen these 2 fish circling some pads but I assumed they were carp, cuz they were WAY to big to be bass. I then siad "Holy *%#*, those are bass!!!!" SO I grabbed my senko-rigged pole and flipped it about 3 ft. ahead of them in the direction they were heading and I lost visual contact, let it fall and gave it a slight tug, felt like I was snagged on something, then it tugged back!! lol.. It was on a light weight pole and line so was a nice lil fight to get her in the boat. Strange thing was it's swimming partner which was at least 18" also stayed right next to the fish I caught almost the entire fight!!! It was like he was saying to the other, "Where ya going?? Why are you swimming so oddly?? was it something I said?? " LMAO it was really something to see.

The LM measured 21 1/2 in. and weighed about 4 1/2 lbs. Congrats again to WIbassmaster on his catch, we don't see many LM that size up here!!!

Hmm... there maybe something going on here in the north. Junior landed a true Hawg on Thursday. Very close to a PR, it was just over twenty inches in length, which is not that long, but it was truly shaped like an NFL football, thick from end to end. 14 inches in girth at the widest! Picture is on my phone, don't know how to post it.

Anyway, congrats Wags that is a great fish! Now go out and get his partner too!

I've also been noticing a trend, with all of these northern Hawgs on display recently. Good Luck Everybody, and remember to take plenty of pics.

Congrats dude!

What an amazing story! I wonder if the other bass was cheerleading the whole way? "Cummon, sweety...break his line! Wrap him around that stump!!"

Something odd struck me ab out your photo though. LILY PADS?!?! In MICHIGAN?!?! How come I don't have any lily pads in Southwest Indiana? This is just wrong!!! I am so jealous now.

Nofear....we have lily pads in almost all the small inland lakes around here...some more than others. Very suprised to hear that you don't have them in your neck of the woods??? I may start fishing the pads a bit harder now that I found these two hawgs just strolling around ! I was reading that using a heavier drop-shot style weight and a larger soft plastic lure on the set-up and crashing it thru the pads may pay dividends. I normally frog over the top but not with much success.

When you say not much success on the pads, what do you mean? not getting strikes? Not getting hook-ups?

I was getting strikes on the larger scum frogs,...but only hooked one bass and killed it because it took the whole dang frog down his throat. I then switched to smaller frogs and soft platic frogs and have done better, but I still feel I am missing out on some nice fish, especially in the afternoon when the sun has been out all day. Most of the lakes around here don't have that much shallow cover, so I would have to assume they are there, just a matter of getting to them.

Fishing pads with frogs can be extremely frustrating to be sure. My first time tryin' 'em, I had 12 strikes and not one hookset!
So I snuck into old threads around here to see what I was doin wrong lol.
I was treatin it like a Jitterbug when I shoulda been waiting 2-3 seconds before setting the hook.
And of course now that I know that, it's much better, but I still don't hit the coveted 50% hook up ratio very often..errrr.....almost never lol
But I keep at it since it's just such an exciting way to fish

Like Mallen said, do your best to wait 2-3 seconds before you set the hook. Believe me, that'll seem like the longest two seconds of your life. After the wait, don't just set the hook....SET THE HOOK!!!! Cross his eyes, do your best to yank him on the boat without needing to reel.

Those are seriously looooooooooooong seconds. But when you get that hookset, it's on like Donkey Kong! In all honesty, at this stage, no lipped bass makes me smile as much as a frogged bass. I've tried explaining it to a couple guys I work with and they don't get it. Makes sense though, I wouldn't have got it either, unless I'd frogged before.
Took one of those guys fishing 2 weekends ago. He was casting a floating Rapala at the pad edges, I was casting as far into them as I could. Several times he said "That's just crazy" lol

Yeah, I was frogging this past weekend, and it's sort of liberating...all my life I've been trying to keep it out of the weeds, and now I'm throwing it as deep as I can into them hehe. It's like punk rock fishing.

Anti-establishment at the very least
