2014 in Review
Winter was brutal with several snow storms and lots of cold rain. My poor boat was longing for warmer temps as was Capt Dave and yours truly.
With all that cold and wet the early March right thru April catfishing was excellent. The crappie did stutter start with a good bite that shut down when a spring cold snap came right in the middle of our mid-March thru April spider fishing season. After that cold snap it came back twice as good. We slowly slid into a rather cool summer, with only a few days over 90 degrees. But we ate well and caught bigger than normal LGMouth Nice chunky LGMouth. The pads died out and it made for some tough fishing and we had to adjust with longer casts and heavier lures. But the quality of the LGMouth stayed. About a month late the Potomac Pike started to show and we landed a few. Some nice ones too. The cold returned quickly as if someone flicked a switch and bang it was fall. The cats responded well and really put on the feed bag. By end of October the phone no longer rang so I put my boat away and stacked firewood for winter. 2014 was not a normal fishing year for Capt Dave and I, but it did have its spectacular moments that are etched into our cranial cavity forever. We start early next year 2015 in March for cats..then spider crappie and three months of Potomac Pike/pesky LGMouth. In the fall we come full circle to cats again.
