Default half swamped boat-engine question

I won't go into the details of how my boat was swamped. Needless to say I wasn't thinking when I docked it in a heavily traveled area and the wakes from other boats did me in. My Mercury XR4 Black Max 150 was about 75% under water for about 10 hrs before I was able to get it out. I'd like to hear any thoughts on what I should do to check out the engine. Thanks

drain the carbs, the tank, take the plugs out and crank it over until the mater is gone if any is in it. i got water in mine and did this a year ago and its been fine ever since. just DO NOT crank it with water in it before taking the plugs out

Haha, yeah, that ol' incompressible water is a real pain in a sealed combustion chamber.

Default yes

Agree take the plugs out spray wd40 in cyl, drain all the gas, with the plugs out make sure its firing, replace gas and add marine stayble.
This should all be done prior to it sitting a long time, then place an inline filter in the gas line to trap moisture as some will still be in the tank, evry so often take the filter apart and empty.
Something simular happened to mine in the spring,I do have electronic fuel pumps to pump out the tank, but still took off the sending unit and sopped the bottom up with rags.If in doubt about the fuel source then hook up a smaller tank to it on temp basis until you can take care of the large one..
If not eq with electronic pump just a pump up squeeze bulb you may have to actually take the tank out,in order to drain,or remove the sending unit plate and use something to siphon.
