The Boat (so far)

We took the bench seats out of our 14ft Jon Boat today. We used the right angle grinder and cut away the top, then along the edge of the side, and then we cut across the back. We bent them forwaard, the cut the braces, then took the rest of the seat off. Pics Below:

I bet its nice having a garage to work on the boat in. I hate this time of year. The shade tree aint got any shade and its cold as hell.

this looks like it could weaking the rigidity of the sides of the boat.. but this is just me..what are ya going to do with it next??

I really dont think it will weaken the boat, but if you think it could, your probably right. Next we will put foam in the slots b/t the braces, then a sheet of 5/8" marine grade plywood. Bolt that down, then do the sides of the boat in 1/4". Capet it all. Put in rod holders down the length. Put in a front deck that extends to the 1st or 2nd brace. Brace it, then put storage underneath it. Carpet that. Put on front + back pedestal seats. Eventually we hope to get a front mount foot control 45lb thrust trolling motor, a 10-20 horse outboard, front and rear fish finders, and maybe when we start tourney fishing, put in a livewell.

Include the livewell in the plans now. Even if it's not in use it makes a great large storage box. Also you won't have to change or modify anything later.

Oh, I didnt even know there was more than one type. I think were getting a Hummingbird FishFinder 323. Thats what Lisa(good friend of ours that works in a baitshop) said, and shell give us a discount on it. Do they come with transducers or not?

Sorry these questions probably sound stupid, but I know nothing about fishfinders.

Got a guy in the club that mounted his inside his boat, it doesn't work well, a lot of trash at the top on the screen. I hung mine on the bottom right of the boat, just like I've always done, just screwed it in, put some silicone on the screw, and around the plate, no problems in 8 years so far.

We might get the boat painted, but if thats too much, we migfht do it ourselves. We have an air-powered paintgun, that we use for furniture that would work fine. Should we use automotive paint? We were thinking either black, blue, navy blue, burgundy, or a dark grey.........

Well, I guess that would be a good place for it, because we fish some very rocky places, and upfront, it would get torn up. How/why in the world would you put it in the boat?

Epoxy it to the bottom of the boat and it will shoot thru the material. A lot of the boats in the salt will do that and reach over 3000 feet of H2O.

Like Christopher said, inside the boat, but it doesn't seem to work well on the aluminum, at least on my buddies boat. Then again, he could have the gain up way high, I didn't mess with it, just saw the screwy display.

A bildge is a submerged area in a boat where water/gas/oil collect, a bilge pump is a pump to pump that crap out! I have wiring for one, even a switch, just never got around to installing one. Every time I've felt the need to pump the boat out, I did it by hand

Alright, we'll bring the deck out to the second brace, and it will have a total length of 42". The back seat will be in between the last and 2nd to last brace. We will have 3 storge compartments in the deck, one of which will someday be a livewell. We are probably getting the boat professionally painted by my girlfriends stepad, in blue or black, maybe two-tone.

Thats what we've figured out so far.

It's a boat, spray it with the gun you have. Single stage automotive paint, flip that puppy on a sawhorse, do the interior, flip it over, shoot the bottom and rock on.

The pump is only $25 or less and will get the water out of there if you have a leaky plug, leaky hull, spill water in there, spray, etc. You never know it may save you from sinking.
