Default Used Hydrasport w/ 850 Merc

Hi ya'll, This is my first post as Newby, I have just recently started fishing again after being away from it for approx 20 yrs. I enjoy reading and relearning everything I can about the sport. I have run up on a used late 70's 16 ft hydrasport with a 1975 850 Mercury engine with trailer that runs well and looks decent for $1500. Don't have any pics yet. Is this a good price? I've checked the transom for cracks, flooring for soft spots, other than carpet being faded, there's no cracks in the seats. It has a 50 lb MinnKota trolling motor that works and an eagle suprapro I.D. depth/fishfinder also. The guy says he has to sell and I'm tired of fishing off the bank.

Thanks for advice.

My buddy had a Hydrasport bass boat back in the 80s and he really liked it and it preformed well. Other than the typical age related issues like water logged parts of the hull, it sounds like a good boat.

without removing the floor ya can't..best way to check is to see the lower transome area.. check the transome for rot if it has rot your stringers likly are bad.to check this grab the lower unit and try moving it up and down -it should barely move- hydrosport hulls were some great hulls for speed. with an older 85 my guess mid 40's mph easy..

the one thing i will note from experiance the front seat pole needs to be tightened with a wrench and checked regularly..hydro sports and hydro streams both have this problem..the seat will come off at speed and come back at ya..-not fun-
