when you ask a guy what is the best bass boat on the market most of the time the answer he gives you will be the brand that he ownes. however i own a ranger and in my opinion i don't think that there is a better boat than a bass cat. in fact i would probably put ranger up towards the top as far as fishing platform but they still aren't as good of a platform as a bass cat, again this is my opinion. also bass cats are faster, ride better, have better features, and i personally like there storage layouts better than any other boat i have seen.

Hands down on the Basscat, I agree 100% (+). In addition to that, they were, at one time, the best rated boat among the insurance companies for the fewest fiberglass damage claims. I don't, nor have I ever, owned one. I've know several guys who have. In fact one of my neighbors just bought a 1997 Puma with a 250HP Yamaha HPDI. I would put it up against another buddy's 2008 Z520 Ranger with a 250 Evinrude Etec in every category (Not to say there is anything wrong with the Ranger, it is really nice boat!). The layout, the storage, the attention to finishing detail, and the ride is all just a little bit better when you compare them. I would put another buddy's Skeeter 20I single console with a 250HP Yamaha Series 2, right behind the Ranger. The only problem I found with the Skeeter was that the cockpit was cramped. You would've thought that a boat that sized would've had room for a co-angler's tackle bag and legroom, but it ain't there. Just my honest opiniion and comparison.

bass cat pumas are sweet! when the time comes for me to get a new boat i am gonna look long and hard at the bass cat cougar. i personally like the layout of the front deck better on the cougar.

they used to make they eyra which i believe was 17.5'. rode in one and it was a great ride for such a small boat.

since i posted last about the basscat boats i done some info digging... c-rig was right basscat not only did they make a 17.5 foot boat called the MARGAY seen below..

they also made a v1600 and v1500 a 16'7" and 15'6'' boats respectivly back in the late 70's early 80's
still looking for a picture of them..

to say i get around a bit on boating websites would be an understatement.

to answer bobs question in reguards to a bullet boat.. they are a screaminly fast bass boat but due the light hull weight -most under 1200 pounds-often equiped with a high powered beast on the back. they ride rather rough..if you buy one perpare for YEARS of tinkering to get it running right.. exspect to buy at least 4 props i know some who own 30-45 props..

i am one of the few guys who says the early short -17'8''- bullet was the best designed speed/weight ratioed boat ever...

I'm gonna go with the Monark 195 King. Well thats what I fish out of anyway and its like a tank. Big water or shallow bays it does just fine. And to top it off with the fold up back deck I can turn my 2 yungens loose in the back and not worry about them falling overboard. The 150 opti pushes it fine enough to put 7 people plus a skier and the walk through wind shield makes for a nice dry ride even in a light rain. Plus the shield is nice when its cold out. I have fished seval tourneys out of it including one on KY lake a couple of years ago and when the wind picked up on the final day I could go on and the big boys in there high dollar glass boats were up and down, up and down. Either way if you got a boat consider your self blessed. There are a lot of people who would love to just have a raft with a trolling motor. By the way where did the guy go who started this thread? Either you guys were too tuff on him or he just aint got thick er nuff skin to hang here.

I think if you want the fastest bass boat that looks like it would fish good then a Bullet...Most i see are all about speed.Myself i like some speed but don't need to go over 70,but i like a stable and big fishing platform.

ok zooker is right about the legroom and the hp rating but i have to disagree about the champions handling good. my dad had an 18' champion that would do 86 mph gps and that boat was scary at 65mph. and id have to say that rangers are the best. i guess i could be a little partial though.

i have been in a few champions -i was not impressed-. i fished from several skeeters my opinion comes from that -not no, HELL no!!-..

to be honest i sat my big old azz behind the wheel of a 09 ranger -178 vx-the seats were VERY fat and the steering wheel was to me VERY uncomfortable and way low..

i sat behind the wheel of the 08 177tr the seats were much lower in the boat and it felt like a much better position..

but me in a slow boat?? not likly..
