How would one installed a new reel seat
Okay you guys did a great job of informing me on how to seal the cork on our rods, now I hope you can help again.
How would one go about installing a new reel seat on an old spinning rod? (I found a little video on how to install one a new rod (no line guides),but couldn't seem to found anything on an old rod W/line guides) Thanks for your help again!! |

The guides are so big on a spinning rod, about your only option would be the cut the reel seat and grips off and come up from the butt on the rod. Unless you want to remove all the guides. This is going to require shimming on everything, which can be easily accomplished with masking tape and replacing the seat and grips.

I have done this before, but I didn't take photos. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do either. A quick overview is: Strip the handle to the bare blank (time consuming), get a new handle* that will fit over the butt end and slide it up to the first guide, build up arbors on the rod with fiberglass mesh drywall tape to fit, fill tape and blank area with epoxy, slide handle onto arbors. It's not quite that easy, but that's the idea. Also it would be best to use a rubber winding check on the front since you can stretch it over the butt, then cover the gap in the front of the reel seat.
* I used a modified version of this EVA handle since mine needed to be shorter. You can find other handle kits here. |

I forgot about the Mudhole handle systems. Could be your fix. I saw the rod Bender did this to and it was quite impressive.
