Default Broken rod, can I fix it?

My son broke my Dad's lightning rod.

How do I fix it? It's a two piece and it broke where the pieces fit together. The top piece sort of splintered and snapped away from the bottom piece. The top piece is cracked and looks kind of frayed where it should fit over the other piece...

Can I fix it? let me know if you guys know of anything I can do.

Thanks
BH

yes you can fis it. use gorilla glue. sand both ends and pour the glue to it. sand off excess, and it should be ok. just my 2 cents worth.

Brushhog, sorry, this is one that you won't be able to fix. My dad's got one if his steelhead rods that he built that broke a long time ago that he can't fix. I'm assuming the lightning rods are fiberglass, and you won't be able to fix it. You could send away, but then it'd be cheaper to buy a new lightning rod. My dad broke my grandpa's old Fiberglass flyrod, and now it's just sitting in the garage.

I have two words of advice: If the rod is fiberglass:don't touch it where it broke, fiberglass slivers are very painful and impossible to see to get out. The other:Buy a new one. It's not like it's a $200 rod, and I'd be greatful it wasn't. A lightning rod is easy to replace.

I'll probably give the glue a shot. I thought if I could patch it up cheap I could keep it around for nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids to use.... Thanks fellas
