Default DAIWA STEEZ BAITCASTER, why does weight matter?

This reel is $450, and only 5.5oz, what is the advatage of such a light weight reel? Could u put a 17lb., 20lb. test line on this reel? Anybody got one?

# 1 You can Cast it all day long and never feel the effects on your Wrist.

#2 It adds sensitivity.

#3 It adds equity to your mortgage because it costs so freakin much.

Yes you can put 17 -20 test on it but it really depends on with how much line you feel comfortable, if you want more line capacity you have to get a different model ( like the 100H ) with "U" spool instead of "V" spool.

On the weight issue you donīt know what you are missing, the REAL difference, real in the world not in paper is from earth to heaven. To give you an example, a sub 6.5 oz reel paired to any good quality rod weights less than your ordinary baitcaster alone. While one feels like a feather the other one feels like a brick.

I donīt have one ( yet ) but I do know how it feels to fish with reels weighting less than 6.5 oz ( 5.6 - 6.2 oz, got several ), another world baby.

As I've been preaching since Day One, "Weight is your enemy!"
Luckily, you needn't blow THAT much money on a reel weighing less than six ounces.
I own and delight in three Shimano Chronarch 50MG reels. These little toughies weigh in at less than 6 oz and are tough as nails. They are not cheap, but compared to the price of a STEEZ, they are a bargain at 249.99 + TTL.
The old Curado 100B and the new Curado 100D weigh in at 7.4 oz. The "D" model sells for 199.99 and you can find some 100Bs for sale out there at well under 100.00 (be careful when buying a used reel.)
I have a couple of the 100Bs and further enhanced their performance by replacing their undrilled spools with the wiffle spool from 50MGs...a 60 dollar conversion, but worth it.
There is one thing you need to remain midful of when searching for lighter reels; The weight loss is often due to the use of magnesium frames and other parts. This means most of them are NOT safe for use in salt or even brackish tidal waters. Salt eats magnesium, y'see.
Abu Garcia has announced that soon ALL REVOs will be built in a lighter version as well. See link:
bassfan.com/reviews_article.asp?ID=116[
Read carefully to verify my assertion re ALL REVOs.
While the REVOs are within my "under 9 ounces" rule, at 8.6-8.7 oz, depending on model, further lightening will only enhance what seems to be an already fine reel. (I have two of the Made-for-Cabela's-only REVO SC reels, the red ones, and love them.)

I use mostly braid (#20) on my 50MGs, with a fluoro leader (P-Line CFX Leader Material only!) and have found them to handle all tasks very well.

Lightness is a wonderful thing, both to enhance sensitivity and reduce fatigue. As Raul stated, one can now equip with a rod/reel setup that will weight less than some of the traditional reels alone. That is nothing but good news!

Zooker,
The chance of u remembering my name, Stetson, was the same chance I'd remember my password (it took about 10 tries). I can't even remember the last time I been to BPS. I know there aren't many Stetson's out there, but just to make sure it was me, what did I look like at BPS?

Haha, yeah Zooker, we want a full description of this Stetson character.

By the way, you are the only person I know, and have ever heard of, with the name Stetson, Stetson.

Sounds like a rich name... Stetson Alfred Earningston Harold the Fourth.

I'm sure that reel is great, but I agree with FR and I'll stick with my Chronarch 50MG for now. At nearly 2:1 price wise it doesn't make sense....unless you are one of those Shimano haters.
