Obama ban on fishing?

I'm hearing bits and pieces of a Zoning ban on Ocean Great Lakes and inland waterways. Does anyone know anything about this? Heard Obongo will not hear anything from the public on this matter and can proclaim the ban without congress on the matter. Something about regulating commercial and sport fishing.

There is so much info out there I would be careful with any specific details, but that is the suggested goal, to slowly start banning specific types of fishing but would slowly work into a full ban of all recreational fishing or some massive license fees (I heard somewhere around $50 per person per year by 2013)

$50 isn't that much really, between Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, New York (non res. & res), Ontario, and maybe one I'm forgetting I think I had $200-300 in just licenses. It's $29 here for in state and $70 for a non resident! Oh yeah, add $10/$15 to that if you want to fish saltwater too.

Had some political opinion stuff written but decided to delete it, this is only about fishing and rights to do so.

I am throwing that number out for places like here in FL where it is $17 per year for freshwater license, another $17 for saltwater. Increase that to $50 EACH and that is a massive increase. In your case where it is $29, you would probably see somewhere closer to $75

I spend $50 year for an Xbox live gold membership just so my wife and daughter can play games and have video chats with each other....lol. I'd have no problem droppin the same money for a yearly fishing license if it came to that.

50 bucks well spent for sure. Be a heck of an increase but it sure doesn't figure out to much an hour

I'm afraid that recreational fishing might get lumped in with commercial fishing on certain waters and get banned all together, that's a big problem.

thats part of the problem, it would not stop at $50 a year... when they see people willing to spend that much then they increase it... $100 per year, then $50 per 30 day license... and when it gets to the point where they feel they are able to, they completely ban ALL recreational fishing, but just taking 5-50 years to do it step by step... but hopefully there are enough smart congressmen out there to stop it.

A temporary increase in money in their pockets, which they "claim" will be used for fish conservation, which in the end they will file some bogus PETA supported study claiming that recreational fishing hurts fish and removes/kills off too many fish for a lake to stay healthy.

The real problem is that fish were around long before man, and in natural lakes, they maintained their own natural balance. So now with man actually removing some, the fewer fish lay more eggs to try to balance it and get bigger with more food available. This is why today we are seeing more large size fish, there are fewer fish, so they are able to eat more, so when they are caught, instead of catching 20 fish 1-3 lbs, we can (potentially) catch 3 fish at 10+ lbs each, OR they become "lure shy" and get big for several years until some natural looking lure catches them.

One major issue comes in on overfished lakes, like a few in my local area. They do not stock bass, so the few bass that are caught are all 8 oz. to 2 lbs. and very skinny. The larger ones are caught and kept around spawn after their post-winter gorging, and unable to keep the bluegill population down. I have had several trips where I caught several bluegill that were bigger than the biggest bass of the day (10-14" bluegill or warmouth).

So now I have learned of 2 lakes where shad are released and the bass keep themselves in good numbers and size, even though plenty are caught and kept.

All I know is this guy really must not want a second term in office. But then they've screwed everything else up, why shouldn't government screw up fishing?

Because throughout our history, that is one of the only things the government hasn't completley dug their grubby lil fingers into. I'm ok having to pay 28 dollars a year because I think that's a fair price to pay for all the TWRA does for Tennessee's watersheds (which is actually quite a bit). But when the president deems it prudent to make recreational, commercial, sport, boating and fishing federally taxed, that's where I will draw the line.

I look at it this way, if the government starts asking for more money in order to fish, I see it as one step closer to Socialism (more time to work, less time to relax).

Actually, I don't think that he does. But its that, and also the fact that this is going to be the high water mark for democrats as far as numbers go for maybe a century. They had the senate, house and president with a huge mandate and so, the idea for those type of people was if not now, when?

The consequence is B.O. has tried to ra(h)m everything he can through at once. Its a machiavellian tactic to try and overwhelm people and their senses. Of course the end game is he will be much more vulnerable to whatever mushy candidate the GOP nominates. But by then, the damage will be done...to someone..

I feel about fishing the same way as I feel about gun control, this is America, try and stop me. If the government trys to tell me not to fish, I'll fish anyway. Ill raise hell till they shoot me. It's gettin close to being time for some civil disobedience and shake up. Personally though, I chalk this to hype, were in shambles, Obama has bigger fish to fry. (Sorry bout that god awful pun)

You know what, It might be high time for some civil disobedience before it gets to ot of hand. Better to go ahead and give the government the message before they have too much power where it won't matter anymore.
