Burner Reels
I just recently got a Quantum burner reel. I was wondering what are some techniques people have been using them for. I have heard some people say that you should only use them for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. But I have seen Randy Howell use them for crankbaiting (which is one of my perfered Techniques). What are some of the things you guys (and gals ) ahve been using them for.
Thanks, |

I don't own one, but I know people that use high speed reels for lipless crankbaits when they're fishin them fast through the grass and rippin them they need to reel up the slack line quick.

I use mine for buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and lipless cranks. I also use it for "walk the dog" baits because you don't have to crank the handle very far to reel in some of the slack in between jerks of the rod.

I bought a BPS Rick Clunn 7:1 but haven't used it yet. I have it rigged up with a lipless crank right now and she is waiting for her first action.
Most of my reels are 6.3:1 |

Lipless baits here, too. I use a BPS Extreme 7:1.

Man I love the burner reels!! I have the BPS Extreme 7.1. I use them for everything. I love em' for flipping and pitching and c-rigging because I can take up slack line really quickly. I use em for spinner baits, crank baits, flukes, everything. Plus I feel like I really have a lot of power with em'. I don't understand why some people don't like them or use the lower speed reels for different situations. Not dogging those people, I just don't understand the concept. Seems like they could just slow down their retrieve to achieve the same thing while still having the power and speed if needed to fish that reel in any situation. That's why I use em' for everything.
Just my 2 cents, Jolly

I bought a BPS Extreme 7:1 on sale, just to explore the idea of a higher speed. That worked OK, so I bought the REVO SC (Only Cabela's has this model, Red, 7:1, 129.95) and I like it too.
My primary applications for these are 'Traps and ShadRaps (Extreme) and Toads, Buzzbaits, and some spinnerbaits with the REVO SC. P-Line FloroClear #10 or #12 on the Extreme, #30 braid on the REVO. FR |
