My question is, what about the multi-species fishing at dale? I know its got some trout. Is the musky population a trolling affair, or can you cast for them with a legit chance of success?
Billy, there is actually some quite decent fly fishing below the Obey River Dam. They're all stockers, but hey...

Multi-species at Dale would be your walleye, rainbows, browns (rare), and musky (insanely rare). I have it on good word that there have been no lake trout in Dale for over a decade. I think you would have to be out of your mind to try to cast for Musky at Dale unless you are capable of performing sonar miracles and spotting one on a fishfinder (if I saw a really big fish, my first guess would be a catfish anyway).

Insanely rare was my concern.

I guess I just have to go to mille lacs then.

Rare, Yes... but this is a fish of 10,000 casts.

Dale Hollow angler, holding 50" musky.

Here's the report.

While that is a great fish, I don't think I have the time to invest in casting for muskies at dale if they are that rare. It'd be great to catch one, but I will just put that off for later at a lake with better numbers...

Walleye might not be too tough, and trout are a given.

Might try and catch a bass even.

I think my paper chart of DH has a couple creek arms noted as "muskie area". I didn't bother with any last May, I hate the dang things. We had a few thousand pure strain stocked in our local lake about 5 years ago and they are getting big. Not unusual at all to catch one while bass fishing. We have a 4 hr tx, there every Tues. night and one or two are caught each week. Some are reaching the mid 40" size. Also have some big tiger muskie, but the pure strain are much more eager to bite.

Well, the fish that we did manage to catch were; smallmouth, largemouth, spotted, coosa(redeye) bass, and a few bluegill and pumkinseed. I did see a few small schools of gar (24") swimming near the surface. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard Bruce saying that he caught one of those gar. And I think Bryce caught a nice walleye too. Although the smallmouth were the most notable during the trip.

Adam caught the biggest largemouth at 4.32lbs, and I caught the biggest smallmouth at 4.3lbs and 20.5 inches.

By the way...that particular musky was caught trolling.

Caught and released on Dave Clark's boat. Gotta love it.

I love Dave Clark to death, but I know better than to believe him when he says where that thing was caught.

...just posting what was written by a fisherman, as I am a fisherman, so I know... It is a huge lake and the fish can be anywhere.

I'm above that. I can coax fish to jump in the boat by vocal suggestion alone.

Due to the recent discussions revolving around a similiar topic recently that turned bad, I will not make my usual, untasteful, shameless commentary, no matter how much I would like too.

Ok, Garey and Anthony, I know that both of you have busy schedules with work and school. The week of May 12 has been mentioned as a possible date for the event. Does this work for you?

I also want to mention that I believe the week of may 12th would be the latest we could schedule this event. The following week of the 19th is the week leading up to the busy Memorial Day weekend. Most of us would be heading home during this busy travel weekend. Also cabin rates after May 25 increase dramatically.

The resort will start taking bookings for the new year on October 1. I would like to have a date decided by then. Thanks

Here are the post, comments and concerns, in the order they were posted, regarding possible dates and times of the Dale Hollow event.

The original dates of the event.

After hearing that the original dates wouldn't work for Bruce and Billy, I decided to leave it open for discussion.

Bubba, I thought this would work for you. I had no idea that you would have to return to work that soon. I really thought that you had 30 day between jobs. So I thought that you would be able to attend even if the dates were pushed back some.

"Dear Lord, please bless this event."

Let it be know, that the week we decide on must be before May 25, so that we can maximize on the "off season rates".

And let it be known, if we don't get much response by September 30(Resort will start taking reservations October 1), we will resort back to the original dates of this EVENT (April 28 through MAY5,+or-)

John, if you or anybody else wants to carpool a part of the way up, I will throw in for gas. All we would have to do is strap my kayak to the cajun.

BigBassin and Kingfish said that the week of May 12 should work for them; pending Anthony's yet to be determined schedule of his Internship.

I believe that the rest of you that have said that you would like to attend are ok with whatever dates we decide on.

Bubba, like I said earlier, I thought that you had more time off between jobs. I hope that some way some how you can attend, even if it is just for a few days. I was really hoping that you could make it.

Are there any comments from any of you, before I post the dates of the event?
