Starting real luremaking!
well whatdya know? today we got these copons from michaels and rag shop. 50% off today and tomorow on any items, 40% the next day. my friend doesnt go to michaels so i had two 50% off coupons for michaels and a 50% off for rag shop. bought a bunch of balsa and an airbrush for 10 dollars today! came witha botle of propelant so i dont need a compressor. bought an X-acto knife woodcarving set, but we're returning it. tomorrow, getting an X-acto woodcarving set at the OTHER michaels for 50% off, and buying an airbrush paint set at rag shop 50% off. then all thats left is wire and ooks. wish me luck!

chris- i think ill stick to the wire, it looks easier and less likely to get ripped out. txlady. um im new to this, so be warned my first few will probably suck. i can get the paintjob and shape done pretty nicely, and a decent action, but weighting is a huge problem. i was not planning on selling them tll later. but im probably sending out my 8th 9th 10th and 11th out to be tested by people, since those would be weighted and bileld and stuff. so far i dont have bbills so everythings lipless. im working on a popper. everything except the paintjob is done. ill post pics when i finish it. which reminds me, i bought dome devcom epoxy to coat it with. i says working time is 30 minutes and handling time is 2 hours. does this mean ill have to mix it for half an hour and put it on in 2 hours? and the poper im working on now is pretty nice, except i messed up the mouth a bit since i had to make 4 layers because the wood was too thin. next time im cupping it first.

haha alright then. im sure i can get atleast one nice lure out. and for anyone else,
cost for the first 20 would be good feedback and tips. im going to test em in my tub if i cant get to the pond next 50 would be much better, after i use all the feedback i get. those id sell for as much as the materials cost. it would be somewhere around 3.50$ after that im sure ill be pretty good. not amazing, but good. ill decide other prices then |

oh and i dont think ill be taking any cash for the first few. it seems wrong, being paid for something tht doesnt work really good. its an unfair advantage over otehr lures that work better and same price. thanks anyways. the feedback is enough, learning how to make em better so i can improve the quality before taking money

the hardest thing about making cranks is getting the side evenly carved and the diving lip straight

NOOOOOO don't use epoxy. it will dry uneven!!! You will need a rotisarrie (sp) so they dry even. Use the epoxy to put the screw eyes/wire in. And 30 minutes means it will not be usable after 30 minutes of the two parts being together and 2 hours totally dry but I would wait at least 6 hours. Use polyuratane to protect the paint job.
Chris Oh and I would love to give some feedback on one of these. Just bout' finished with one of my new designs. |

kicker- mine looks pretty even. and i will not be using bills for now
chris, i saw on basstech the guys used epoxy and put it on a rotessary thing. but i didnt think it was so necessary... thats for the heads up. whats polyuratane? i have elmers water-resistant spray, i dont know if i should use that or not... anyways, just got everything i needed at another sale and the hooks and stuff at K-mart. the wire isnt such great quality, but its strong. just bends too easily. going to paint my popper now, ill show you what it looks like before i coat it with some protective stuff. please, quickly can someone give me a brand or something? |

WHAT A BUMMER! the airbrush had a hole! the air came thru alright, but the paint came out the wrong way, so it didnt meet. im so ticked off. ive never been more disappointed in my life. i was looking so forward to this... my popper remains unpainted yet another day. i guess ill be working on lure bodies. what a sad day
