Freakin' Fun Frog Fishin!
My dad and I got out for half a day on Sunday to a nice little mudhole of a lake (about 14-16" vis and the clearest I've EVER seen it).
The hot summer has really helped the pads although they don't really need much help on this lake. We got there around 7:30 (my alarm didn't go off, I wanted to be there an hour before that) and started casting some cranks on basically two points that meet and separate the two main basins on this lake. Not a bite, but weeds aplenty. We moved to one of the shallower back basins that is full of pads and hit some nice laydowns with jigs, spinnerbaits, and big worms. Again, nothing... Moved back farther to the pads and busted out the frogs. Now, I've only fished frogs a couple times, and this was a first for my dad. So the frogging learning curve was still there, lol. The pads: My dad got a hit on a Horny Toad within 15 minutes, but missed it. I started with a Spro frog to see which they'd be more interested in. After 3 more hits and misses on the Toad, I switched over to a Rage Toad (again, something different to see if they like it better). A couple more hits for my dad, an almost hookup. I missed a couple on the Rage Toad (damn reflexes!)... I finally hooked up with the first fish of the day, a chunky 12"er. A short fish sure beats the smell of skunk. He did shred my last Rage Toad though. So my dad finally got one of those hits in the boat, another about 12"er. We move on to another set of pads where I get a nice blowup and I wait a second, feel the weight, set the hook. I fought him to the boat before he came off. Decent fish too, probably around 3-3.5lbs. I hooked up later on with a 3lber. We both missed some more before my dad hooks up with another 3lber. He got one more little guy around 8-9" before we called it a day. I guess we both need some more practice frogging. We missed a lot of hits, but it was a blast! We'll be going back soon, but after a trip to BPS to get some more frogs! BB

Thats an awsome report. Glad to see your getting into the froggin action. When it's on, it's a blast! Those Rage frog are winners for sure! The frog bite here has been almost non existant the past 2 years, and I havn't a clue why. Congrats on a good day on the water with your dad.

Frogging is definitly FUN. And there definitly is a learning curve.
It has to be a GREAT feeling experiencing that curve with a GREAT fishing partner! Wow what a good looking patch of water. Almost 'SCREAMS FUN' at you! Some how I got a feeling that 'mudhole' maybe seeing more of the two of you. Thanks for the share.
