Hubby is much more familiar with Barkley. He has several sweet spots there. He and his partner won the first one tournament there this year with 27 lbs! This tournament launches from Devil's Elbow. Hoping for the best!

I will have to say, from my experience and in my OPINION, lilmule's 'two cents' is usually worth a dollar! Glad his input was able to assisst your hubby. I know his input always helps ME. ![]()

It was obvious from his first post that he knew what he was talking about! No generalities, just cold hard facts! Hubby did appreciate it very much. And so did I!

All I did was list some common things he put them together, the creature baits of any kind are hot on either ky or barkley in green pumpkin. If one had but one bait in the boat it should be a bushhog,or other creature bait. Its also a numbers bait to which many short ones hit but also anything else from black drum to brown bass.

But you took your time to share your knowledge with us. Not a lot of folks bother to do that any more. Thankfully, there are still good people like you and the others on this site that are willing to do so for strangers! It is appreciated!

Update - Hubby and his partner came in third at the tournament on Barkley. They didn't have a fish in the boat until 40 mins. before the end of the tournament. They managed to get three keepers in those last minutes. Fortunately, the two teams that came in ahead of them are way on down in the pack and it didn't affect the overall standings. They go into the last tourney with a 9+ lb. lead. Certainly not an insurmountable lead. Keeping our fingers crossed for the last tournament in 2 weeks! As usual, he didn't take any pics.

Its a tuff transition time, they can be there one day gone the next as following the bait around. So unless you drive up on a pack one has to look for resident fish like around the barge facility. Most fish are near the channel but not in it,say 40-50 yards to as little as 20 ft from it,but not deep running around 6ft or less even in 20 ft of water.
other method is to find a ball of baitfish and follow they will be behind and below waiting for a straggler. Worse is around 1st -2nd week nov one can blank entirely,as gone again when you figured them out. Generally deeper water like outside the barge area around those two mooring cells. And the island point towards the bridge as deepwater nearby. But nothing set in stone. If they wanted to make a long run down to near paris landing can put them on a limit,of about a 16-17 in fish nothing huge,a culler or two among them.12-14pds somewhat depending upon them. The test would be to arrive a day early launch here at paris landing ,then rule out if not viable. Guide possible via request. Its a 45 min to 1 hr run depending upon boat and or driver but many do it. Last edited by lilmule; 10-09-12 at 10:41 AM. |

Thank you for the offer lilmule. Unfortunately, or forunately, the last tournament is on their home lake, just a few miles from our house. It is TINY compared to Barkley/Kentucky. He is fishing it today and hopes to get in several more days over the next week or so in hopes of locating them before the final test. Thanks again for all of your help!
