Metal lubricants/protectants
http://ronkulas.proboards.com/post/701/thread
This is a must read for anyone who wishes to protect anything metal, whether that is tool, hunting gear, fishing tackle, and so on. This is the best study and report I've ever seen on products such as WD-40, Break Free, Rem Oil, and so on. His test results might surprise you and no doubt make you re-think what product you will use from now on. Do your self a favor and check this out!

That is a great read, Keith!
Thanks for sharing! It looks like good ol' WD-40 is still one of the best! The military didn't use it for no reason!

I wouldn't say the old stand by WD-40, but the newer WD-40 Specialist sure looks very good! I was most impressed I think with the One Shot and Frog Lube.

Keith, if you get a chance to post on that board, ask him if he will consider doing a follow up test of his top few against my prefered product which is TSI 301 and TSI 321. The 301 is a solvent based cleaner, lube and protectant. The 321 is the full concentrate lube protectant. I have seen tests of both still rust free after months of exposure.

I bet if there was more money to be made, Dura Lube and Slick 50 would claim to do all that.

That's pretty cool. I may have to give Frog Lube a try for some of my knives. I have heard good things about it before.
I tend to use food grade mineral oil on my knives as most of them come into contact with food. I would have loved to see how it compared to all those expensive lubricants/protectants. BB

If I am not mistaken, mineral oil tends to wash off fairly easily. A few rains and it's gone. It's a wonderful oil, but requires more maintenance time ... not as good for long term storage.
