I like the custom rod idea, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place idea.
If we got 500 bucks worth of participants we could do a $250 custom for 1st place, a $150 custom for 2nd place, and a $100 custom for 3rd place. Just another thought.

I'm not sure but not many rod builders are going to do a $100-$150 make cost rod.
Heck a good blank is $100. Fact is, I'm not sure $250 can get you a custom build as high quality as one thinks. Like you anglers know, there is a big difference between a 'home built' and a 'custom'. Places are nice but if takes away from the great keepsake/best working/best fishing/first out/ first shown PRIZE we think of when we hear the word, 'custom'. So be careful of watering down first place. Now understand, these are just thoughts, NOT REQUESTs. I'm IN, irregardless of donation and/or rules.

Pretty sure whoever runs it will be dead set against more than 1 payout.
Trust me, 1 can be a big enough pain in the arse!

On a side note....whoever DOES run it? From personal experience, nobody is involved in the contest until they've paid.
Best advice ever

OK, lets do the math!
Now this is calculations based on a May 4th Opening day.
$20 242 days $.09 a day 34 weeks $.60 a week 7 months $ 2.85 a month Leaving 28 days to treat the monkey. or using 8 months . . . . . .$2.50 a month. Reward; Chance at a one of a kind custom made to your specs. Your name and contest name plus a date. Great for those who want to pass along our passion and memory. Halve a great time teasing your friends Encourage and even help your competitors beat you. Try new ideas on the 'hunt' for that biggie. Even if you don't win...helped someone(s) to have the enjoyment of a custom. Sounds like a GREAT investment/donation and a REALLY GOOD time. Again, Wisconsin math, my opinion and observations only,

Agreed. If you're going to do this for a $20 entry fee, the rules need to be strictly enforced and well defined, no ifs ands or buts. It's too easy for someone to bend the rules and someone else to get mad about it. Money changes things.

Hey I just thought it would be fun........I didn't realize I was running with a pack of timid little school girls. I say we just scrap the whole thing or ante up 2-bits and just keep spending our time poking fun at Johns spelling.

One of the BEST all time movies!
At one of the Companies I worked at, it had a 'lead' challenge. Anyone who '*****ed to me' got locked in my office and 'forced' to view the flick. Glengarry, Glen Ross Got to the point that on Monday mornings I'd walk in and the crew would be lined up in front of my office...WITH COMPLAINTS! These folks could SELL. Never Ceased to amaze ME!

The custom rod idea sounds good to me, depending on how many contestants we get. I would think having a definate entry cutoff date should be mandatory. That way, all contestants are playing by the same dates with no last minute entries when someone who didnt join at the start catches the bass of a life time and decides to capitalize on it. Also, having an entry cutoff date would allow us to know exactly how much money will be involved and whether a custom rod is even an option. If we DO get enough entries and money, we can then have the rod builder advise us as to what exactly they can build for that amount of cash. The balance could then go to 2nd place. I wouldn't worry about a 3rd place myself. Lets keep it as simple as we can.

So lets address the entry fee and interest.
Is this something that would prevent/encourage you to enter? If not, what level of interest do you have? This is just to see where the interest is. Not a commitment! Just measuring INTEREST.

ok,ok,ok...let's do this folks. let's start with a $20.00 entry fee, and see how many are in. I AM. then if we get enough entered, ask one of our rod builders if there is enough to cover the cost of a custom made rod. or what kind of rod they can build with said amount of money collected. THEN we can see if there is enough for 2nd or 3rd place finishers. if there isn't enough money for the others to have rod, pay out cash then.
is this clear enough for ya'll? have a deadline for the money, deadline for the tourny to start and FINISH. set the rules, set the dates. set the time for money. START THE GAME. who wants to be the one who collects the money? i can't gang, starting this new job will not allow me to do it or i would. who wants to MC this thing? come on...let's go!! hahahaha!! i feel the winner tugging on my lizzie already, hahahahaha!! (this post was edited for CLEAR READING, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

I love the rod idea.
Maybe with a special "2013 Bassfishin.com Champion" label on it or something. Something to show off.

Thats a cool idea about the label Bryce! I have a feeling with John deciding to start working deep water structure on Guntersville, this could be Johns year to take the big prize!

How about this: Contest runs 3/1/13 thru 10/31/13 (this will give the guys that don't visit 3-4 times a week a chance to see it)
****If we don't get a minimum of 20 players we don't play**** $20.00 to be pre-paid before 3/1 Largemouth only? Highest % of state record where fish caught wins. All entries must include 2 clear pics showing fish hanging from scale with weight clearly visible. ****a quick glance at this thread says theres 7 of us so far with at least one hair on our gluts....surely there are 13 more brave souls somewhere. Regarding payout.....if we just hit the 20 players, winner take all. I think we could get someone to build a worthy rod for $400. If we get past 20 lets try winner gets 80% of the pot and 2nd gets 20%? It would be nice if maybe someone who's not playing for whatever reason could act as an impartial Tournament Director. I don't mind being the quartermaster but currently don't have a PayPal acct. I'm sure somebody won't mind helping out. PLEASE feel free to offer tweaks/input

I'm thinking maybe later end date.
At least Thanksgiving. Lot of hogs caught in the fall. Remember too, us nortern boys have opening day, first Sat. in May. Closes first Sat. in March. So let's consider a longer contest period. Heck, Dec.31st worked for me.

Kenneth, I see you are attempting to keep those high-BMI February bass out of the running.
If you want to make March the deadline, that's fine, but at least allow catches before then to count. And let's count Smallies too.

I don't have a problem with a smallmouth category even though I've never actually seen one. We'll just see how that plays out between now and the cut-off. I sure hope some of the guys here who are well respected/liked will participate. You know.....the guys who everyone knows them by first name ***edit*** of course that's not to say you guys that have already posted aren't a bunch of well liked first namer types just sayin....why not?

The 20 dollars is fine. Although I really don't want a custom rod if I would win. I can't see any cut off date other then the end of December. Why do the fish have to be posted within a week of catching? What happens if there is a tie? Can you build a rod for $200 or less?
I hope I didn't sound to negative about some things. But I'll go no matter what the rules might be.

To whom do I send da money, and in my case would not always have a pic but weighed on certified scales to the hundredth of a pd and on my weigh in sheet as bf.
Now is it 20 ea for largies and smallies or does it include both,as will just put in for largies otherwise. So far no lunkers but no blanks either. http://www.americanbassanglers.com/a...MemberID=47841 Out of the back end no less,as my old boat needs some r and r |
