Default Line-through crankbaits

I saw this on W2F and thought it was interesting. They are line through crankbaits that aren't attatched to the hook. This is supposed to offer two advantages, 1st, the fish can't gain any leverage because the bait slides up the line and 2nd, if snagged, the bait will float free, minus the hooks.

Not sure how well this would actually work but it sounds like a reasonable idea in theory.

Definitely interesting. I would definitely fish heavy cover with cranks a bit more if I thought I wouldn't lose so many.

Too gimicky (is that a word) for me. If you're worried about hanging up a crankbait another option is the titanium split rings. They will give under steady pressure and the hook(s) will detach from the lure. They are not cheap, but compared to the cost of the above lure, not much and those allow you to use your favorite brand of lure. There are also weedless trebles that may help with the hang up issue. Hanging a lure (for me) isn't a great issue and I don't use the Ti rings or the weedless trebles, with co-poly line and a lure retriever I can usually get most hung lures back - not all though, and leaving a Lucky Craft in a submerged tree hurts a little, but I can still throw my L/C's and not some lure I may not have as much confidence in.

Interresting for sure. Not too sure I would want to deal with rigging it up though as I am often changing crankbaits frequently. This would be ideal though for those who troll a lot I think.

If I remember correctly Keith took that picture while suffering from a severe case of cabin fever and he needed to get on the water. And he was definitely ON, not in, that water
