Talking What fish do you target? species/lures

I was wondering this about everyone. What species of fish does everyone here try to catch? And whats your first go to rig/setup/lure for each species? Bass included of coarse, that is a given.

Bass- jitterbug/cotton cordell lipless rattle trap

Crappie- Marabou jigs 1/64-1/8. hair jigs also synthetic/real hair

Smallmouth Bass- Black 1/4 oz squirrel tail hair jig

Bluegill- micro hair jigs

Feel free to go into detail.

I fish for well fed great whites with a very large boat and a winch.
Whatever i think I might catch, mostly bass but sometimes another species bites, three times last year had shellcrakers hit my spinnerbait all in same day.
Later a catfish took my white rat off the grass mat go figure.

90% of my time is spent bass fishing. The other 10% is fishing for pike. A white spinnerbait is my lure of choice most of the time. But it all depends on the pattern the bass are on, and many other factors. Sometimes my first choice is a topwater, or a crankbait. It all just depends.

I know i was just wondering what everyones first lure usually is for each species... like for Largemouth Bass for instance, I like to use a cotton cordell spot rattle trap lipless crank bait as a search lure cuz it helps me gauge where some of them are holding... sometimes a jitterbug.

Thats a 64 million dollar ?
All jokes aside most of us here target bass, other species are also targeted mostly for the dinner table.
And if we knew what exactly to throw it wouldnt be a riddle or puzzle to solve ,so most throw what they like to throw not necessarily what the bass wants.
In short it is the pursuit of,not called catching, their is no secret formula or magic bait what works one day may not the next and wont 500 miles away for sure.
Fishing got so tuff last summer I made a game out of trying to pick a lure I couldnt get bit on so if I did it felt great.
Its what you yourself are comfortable with and if its hula poppers, jitterbugs so be it.
It doesnt matter what the other guy uses, its what hits your line, and you can have same thing on and not get bit.
I tend to use different baits different types of water most of us do,open water crankbaits, spinnerbaits topater, worms vegetation I toss frogs on it,some punch thru it with a heavy weight, and generally in he pursuit of i do all of these in same day(exception of punching thru).
What do I prefer a floating frog on some type of mat,we dont however always get what we want.
A rattle trap is a good search lure,if you catch more than one in a small area try showing them something else, fluke, spinnerbait,or worm to pick up those more discriminating bass.

I know, it was a curiosity question. I know that no one knows everything. I was just simply curious of what people enjoy trying when persuing a species. I was just simply trying to make a decent thread, not trying to find the magic lure/answer to everything. @lilmule

And bamabassman your most used lure was all i was asking lol post whenever you feel, you've been very informative everyone and i appreciate it being new to the forum.

MACK,
I think that for a lot of us the answer to that question will change based on time of year.

My goto Bass lure is a fat IKA. That being said, first thing in the morning I will tie on a gunfish. Once it get's warm and sunny, I will always have a frog tied on as well.

For trout, I throw a silver and blue kastmaster more than anything else. Although most of my trout this year came off of an IKA.

For Cats, I use cut mackeral.

They also work well when the bass are boiling on the shad. I will often have one tied on in lakes where I have a lot of small shad. They cast a mile so you can often reach the futher fish.

I like little cleos... the thick casting ones... they're my favorite spoon lure... and all species will bite a casting little cleo... I've seen big crappies, pike, bass all bite at em... and some ppl swear on em for lake trout... im not a big spoon guy but that is one i definitely have in my tacklebox... the only thing i dont like is they dont have the naked chick stamped into them like they used to after a female customer in the early 90's made a complaint... the reason why they were called little cleos is because the guy that invented it named it after a topless dancer named little cleo in the 30's and the wiggle of his spoon he invented reminded him of the way she would dance and hoped it have the same allure to fish as she did to him.

I fish for bass primarily. My lure selection depends on the time of year and water conditions. Senko's, lipless cranks, football jigs, sq bills and finesse worms are all on my favorite list.

If I had my choice it would be topwater all the time. Nothing as exciting as the explosion when they hit a toad. Unfortunately with the seasons here that can't be my only choice. Second would be cranks and jigs. Third , plastics. Used to fish for walleyes and trout but gave that up with my first bass fishing monkey attack.

Largemouth and Smallmouth bass - jigs, crankbaits, topwater, softplastics, and anything else that gets me bites.

Crappie - Roadrunners and Bubble Bellies.
