Default green pumpkin vs watermelon red flak

If you could only choose one for most water clarity conditions which one would you pick?

Green Pumpkin...Watermelon/red is a classic producer, but I feel more confident with green pumpkin....The subtle color to me seems to fit most fishing conditions.

Green Pumpkin for me too, although just barely. Both are great colors. I have more baits in these 2 colors than any other, by far.

Tough call. I like watermelon colors over GP better, but would rather fish a straight watermelon or watermelon candy to watermelon red.

I don't have good luck with the red flake where I most often fish. I do have good luck with both watermelon and green pumpkin however, it would be tuff for me to pick one over the other. Yamamoto makes a Senko that is a laminate of both green pumpkin and watermelon, I use it often with good luck I believe the color is 912

I've used the Swim Senko in the GP/Watermelon color and it's great. Best of both worlds!

I guess I would go with GP too. I like watermelon for crystal water. But most the water we fish is a clear tanic color like Tea and GP usually wins.

Thank you for this thread, I was having a fight with myself last night about which one I should use tomorrow, Watermelon Red Flake is just SOOOOOOOOOOO Enticing! I think I'm going to go with the Majority though and throw the Green Pumpkin!!!

If given a choice I'd go GP/red flake first, then GP, then Melon/red.

When it comes to the laminate Senko I like the GP/Melon too. Of course you have to consider Bama Bug colored baits as well....GP/Junebug.

I don't think you can go wrong with either color but it looks like I am in the minority here as I prefer Watermelon/red lake over Green pumpkin for most applications. I still use plenty of both though, it just seems like the fish around here love the watermelon/red flake.

Definitely a hard choice. Green pumpkin just because I think it works better when the water is more stained, and still works well in clear water. IMO watermelon is better when the water is clearer.

I use both. I would say that I have about 90% of all my plastic baits are either GP or watermellon red....

If you would have ask me this a year ago I would have said Green pumpkin all the way. In the last year or six months really, my views have changed drastically. I love senko in the w.r. and Zoom trick worms either weightless or on a shaky head.

Up here in northern MI (up of MI) i use both colors. We have a few different clarity changes from Lake to lake, river to lake. I use the Red flake in slight stained water
and clearer I use GP.Both with success.

Watermelon Red Flake is my favorite color for ALL soft plastic applications. Very rarely do I used GP for anything other than a jig and trailer.

Green Pumpkin is always my starting point. The only other plastics colors I use a lot are black, white/pearl and blue. I have a bag of Bubblegum flukes that get smallies once in a while.
