Default Carolina Rig vs Football Jig

When will you throw one over the other? Pretend that confidence has nothing to do with it.

most of the time i throw a carolina-rig when i am looking for quick bites and a football jig when i am looking for more quality fish. example: a carolina-rig is a good bait to throw early on in a tournament and once a limit is filled out i would go to a football jig looking to upgrade. this isn't the case all the time but there is an example of what i would choose in a given situation. that being said i throw a football jig 10 times as much as a carolina rig but that comes down to the confidence factor which you said to leave out.

C-rig is my prinicipal structure GO TO method. Since moving to Georgia, I have been trying the football head jig more and more, but I lose a lot of them to the sharp rocks in Allatoona, Carters, and Lanier. So I'm not liking that too much. Matched with a Hula grub type bait, the spotted bass love them.

I think the C-rig is better when the fish are less active. You can get baits to suspend right in the strike zone for long times if needed to be. Don't get me wrong, C-rig is a great tool when the fish are very active too. Foot ball jig is nice because you can cover more water quicker than a c-rig. I think a football jig works so well is because it mimics a crayfish very well, and its kinda like a crankbait how it runs into cover and could get reaction strikes when the fish aren't that agressive.
