Paca craw, Craw Papi, Chigger Craw all have similar sized bodies and large claws. They also come in 3" and 4" sizes.

I use three jig trailers. First is a Net Bait Tiny Paca Craw for use on a finesse jig. Second is a 3" Berkley Chigger Craw for use with my football jigs. Third is a Strike King Rage Tail Chunk on my casting and flipping jigs.

Any jig trailer will work you just have to find the on that is best for you . Me I like the tinny Paca craw when I want an fast fall and a Paca jig craw when I want an slow fall.

A twin tail grub and a brush hog work real well as a jig trailer.

I like the Tiny Paca Chunk in green pumpkin trailering a rabbit hair jig. It has a solid body and stays on the hook well. I simply run the hook up through the body and out the top.....works well, very well.

yeah trailers can slow the fall or speed it up... also if its colder you want one that has less action.... have fun figuring the ins and the outs

One thing to remember when choosing a jig trailer is to consider the water temps. Early in the year when the water is below say the mid fifties, choose a trailer that has less action. A good choice would be a pork chunk frog. Once the water has warmed up, then the trailers that impart more action like a twister grub or Rage Chunk can be more effective.

we just shot a video lastnight for our website where i talk quite a bit about different trailers and what each style will do for you and when you would want to use them. unfortunatley i am having problems getting it uploaded so until i can figure it out i will say this.
in cold water a zoom super chunk is my favorite trailer, it has very little action so it will look a lot more natural in cold water. as the water warms i go more with chigger craws, paca craws and chunks, twin tailed grubs, and baby brush hogs. there are a ton of great jig trailers out there so be creative.

I like to use hula grubs , zoom super chunks , and rage tail chunks . Also on some of my soft plastic frogs that were falling apart from over use I cut them in half and use the bac half for a jig trailer when I swim them displaces a heck of a lot of water .

eakins trailers in cold water. I also like the tiny paca chunk this time of the year. The smaller jigs tend to work better for me when the waters cold

Sometime a jig needs to be bulkier (your word, way too much) than you think, especially in the summer in deep water. Some guys like to use a full size zoom bush hog as a jig trailer. Now that is a BIG bait! Whatever floats your boat.

yeah i could understand what you say about a bulky bait... but that isnt what i meant at all, i said way too much, sorry you didnt understand... i meant way too much going on(not bulky at all, in fact i use a chigger craw trailer myself) as in the crazy legs going everywhere( hint: crazy legs chigger craw) not too big or bulky but too much movement for a subtle bite.

Chigger Craws are great.
I use them all the time. People have already shown you what they looked like. But buy a pack of 3" Chigger Craws and make them as a trailer on a PB & J colored BPS Pro Enticer jig. Cheap combo that catches bass.

You can use pretty much any soft plastic as a jig trailer. I have a buddy who has had success using a plastic lizard and a Horny Toad.
I try to match the size/color of the jig. for example, on a small finesse jig I use a Tiny Paca Craw. for larger jigs I use a 3-4" Paca Craw, Zoom chunk, Chigger craw, etc.

Your buddy who uses the plasic lizard on a jig has a good idea. For a long time now I've used 1/4 oz. maribue jigs with 6 inch lizards for trailers and that slim combo works great in water between 10 and 20 foot deep. |
